I have just recently put a deposit down on a cross breed. His Dad is Border collie so he's 1/2 and his Mum is 1/2 Siberian Husky 1/2 German shepherd. I'm picking him up on the 27th. What I'm worried about is that I know that Sibes will run and run when they are off lead, but I'm not sure if he will or not as he is only a cross. Should I expect prey drive/running and treat him as if he's a Sibe and never let him off lead or do you think he might be ok? We are going to start clicker training and take him to a training class so hopefully his recall will be ok as Border Collies need a lot of excersise as do Sibes. I'm considering agility just for fun when he's a bit older and to help him get some energy out.
Thanks for reading Smile

I'm worried about recall really. I'm considering agiity but I haven't found anywhere near me yet. I used to walk a male Border when I was younger and he had superb recall, but my previous dog was a Border and her recall was a bit iffy. From what I gather I'll end up with a dog that loves to run, is very loyal and might run into a car if I let him off the leash? German Shepherds are realy loyal and a lot like Huskys with inteligence, they are also protective of their family. Collies are just crazy Wink

I posted the pics in the welcome section but thought I would do so here too:
Mum and dad:
1/4 Husky MumDad

My boy is coming home on the 26th, the breeder is bringing mum and dad to visit us to try and make the journey a little less stressful. We confirmed yesterday. I have to go and get him some bowls and his food is coming with our shopping this week. I am nervous but I can't wait to have him home! I'm looking at dap diffusers or calmatives for the first few nights as I don't want to annoy the neighbours Wink I only have one photo of him right now but more will follow as soon as I get sent any or when he comes home Smile

Here is my boy:

He's so adorable! Again, I wish I had better pics of the parents. The mum looks like an all-white husky to me!

I might ask if I can take a few when they come to drop him off as they are bringing mum and dad to meet us again (hubby hasn't met them). (cat is getting locked in the utility room!) I think her dad was a Sibe and her mom was a white GSD.

Is he from a planned litter then? You keep referencing the person who has the puppies as a breeder... just curious as it's not common to see a planned cross breed litter. Smile

Ahh.. okay Smile I wasn't sure because you were saying "breeder" and said you put down a deposit (which granted I don't know how much but in my experience a lot of accidental litters don't always charge with a deposit-- however, maybe that means the puppy people/breeders are doing their homework to ensure good homes, in which case, accidents happen and kudos to them!).

I meant no harm, it's just sometimes hard to decipher things over the internet so I figured I'd ask Smile

PS- I can't wait to see what the pup looks like all grown up! He's already so cute!!

I love him to pieces! Just 8 more days to go! They did his vacinations and microchipping (in my name) in the price they charged which is pretty reasonable. They only charged me $225 which considering they did that and how much it costs to feed them (he will be 9 weeks when he comes home) that is pretty reasonable in my opinion. We also get a disk with all the puppy pics as well as his vacination documents. Especially as they had all puppies checked at the vet. Aparently his eyes are starting to change color now though to the same colour as his moms Smile
Oh and don't worry I didn't take it the wrong way Smile Just didn't really know what to call them. I wish I could have 2 from that litter, I really liked a girl too but we can't have more than 1 here as we already have a cat.
