Is there another way of giving a positive discipline other than "time-out"?
Because as I observed, "time-out" is not really working out with Rylai.
Any suggestions ?

What is your definition of time out?? And how do you execute it?

With my girls, they are baby gated off into another room and they get ignored completely. No eye contact, no voice contact, nothing. They get the tough love silent treatment.

Explain your time out process.

If ever I saw Rylai doing things I dont like, I just say a firm "no" and then put her into the bathroom with no lights and all. That's how I do it.

Can someone advice me on how to discipline a dog or tell her that what she did was wrong ?
I dont know how to discipline her because every time she made a mistake, I am not around. I cant caught her in the act. please help

Generally speaking your tone and stance alone should be enough to get a point across. Though it won't happen over night they totally understand you when you are disappointed in them.

When my girls "do bad" I generally just fold my arms or put them on my hips and simply say "What did you do!?" . Not yelling, not angry, just matter of fact.

Most of the time my Sibe will crawl under my legs and hide between them. My Cross will lower her ears and wag her tail nervously.

Both of mine however understand and respect timeouts. I've used the bathtub since day one with them as a timeout spot and they know it is a punishment when I put them inside it. I even used it with my friend's Sharp-Pei when it was/is over.

If Timeouts don't work for you try removing yourself from the pup instead of placing them somewhere. Obviously remove any toys before you do, and then just wait until you hear relaxation.

Water guns or squirt bottles are a decent way to get your point across without "harm". Just squirt them and say NO. It works for some dogs, but others just ignore it or think the water gun is a new game.

Redirecting into something else when they are being naughty is another thing you can look into. You can either use another activity or command to change the frame of mind. For instance when Tika is being pully trying to see or meet another dog I redirect her into commands to get her back focused on me. SIT, PAW, UP, Five. Flip it; make them excited about something else like training.

A firm Snap, Clap, Or noise can do just as well also. I snap my fingers when I want attention. I clap when I need them to stop what they are doing and I'm extremely verbal with my pups. I'm that weird guy who walks down the street talking to his dogs (Or myself and pretend I'm talking to the dogs).

I agree with Chris and usually a firm "no" or "what did you do?" works pretty well. Our boys always know when they've done wrong, so showing them disapointment is enough.

If you have to move to squirt you really aren't doing it right. By the time you get up, reposition, aim, and squirt you generally have a Husky looking at you at not being "bad".

If thats the case you aren't correcting the behavior, your correcting a dog looking at you wondering "what the hell is this guy doing?" It really needs to be in the act type of thing or you are just causing confusion and doing your pup a disservice.

On the flip side Huskies have a lot of fur, so just randomly hitting them with a squirt doesn't always work either, because they might not feel it.


If you want to go the squirt bottle / gun route I would pick something that doesn't have a high flow but instead makes a noise. Lots of squirt bottles make a weird clicking type noise when you squirt them.

Correct with it as you see fit.

Then after a couple of times You'll probably notice the NOISE alone would be enough to stop an action, as it is associated with that. It won't matter where you hit them with the water or if you hit them at all, the noise alone should be able to snap them out of what ever behavior they are fixated on.
