So the pups were outside playing and all of a sudden it sounded like WW3! We realized that Demon was caught up in Dakota's collar. It's happened before, but we were able to undo the collar clip. This time, the clip was in Demon's mouth and Dakota's collar was so tight that we couldn't get scissors or a knife under it. Demon now has a puncture wound on his muzzle not too far from his eye. Hubby just bathed him and says it appears to be pretty deep. I'm hoping using some peroxide and neosporin will be sufficient in treating it... It's been at least a half hour since and I'm still shaking.

Oh my, poor thing! I hope he heals up alright. I had a similar situation with Shaqua last summer and it scared me half to death (Another dog was on a cable in a fenced back yard and she got tangled in it...luckily she had no injuries but she was so scared and wrapped so tight she even bit me as I tried to help her....I felt terrible!) What part of the collar would cause a puncture wound like that? :S

It was Dakota's tooth that caused the puncture. They were both so scared, they were fighting. Dakota was being strangled and Demon was screaming. It was terrifying. We've cleaned them up and are keeping an eye on Demon's puncture. I'm still shaking...lol

Don't use much hydrogen peroxide on it after the initial cleaning. It kills the skin cells that are necessary for regrowth.

Nope, the peroxide was only for the initial cleaning.

We've decided that no collars will be worn when they are inside alone, or supervised outside. I can't imagine what would've happened if we hadn't been home.

they have quick release collars that will release if they get caught on something so you don't have to worry about them tangling with eachother or their collars getting hooked on their crates

| Yeah - but you have to be careful if you walk a dog with the leash attached onto the collar and they pull with those. =\ Freaked me out when it happened...
I had a rolled leather collar for Stark that got caught around the lower jaw of another husky he was playing with at the dog park - holy crapola, was that ever terrifying. Since then, I just use his harness when we go to the dog park / car rides / Petsmart etc. |

Beka and Baylin got in a similar fight but the "caught" up portion was a minor thing. THey got caught up and shook it off but a fight started because of it and it turned into a dominance for alpha issue. Baylin was sporting a puncture very near the tear duct. I took her to the doctor the next day (it looked like it was sloughing skin) and they scrubbed cleaned and the polysporined. They said this type puncture look really badusually and we polysporined for over a week and it seemed to take forever to heal. There was not much to do but keep it clean and polysporin. Is it starting to look better yet?
