So, my husky is two y.o. Sometimes he just snaps, his pupils get so big (i know thats play mode) and he just starts running in every directions (off leash on house), and the worse part is that he jumps and starts biting, is there any way to calm him down when he's like that ? Also, talking about bites, he never was groomed once in his life (full groom), so im keeping it daily know, but the problem is he bites me as i do it, if i give him treats he calms down, For about 5 SECONDS, lol. I know if he wanted to realy bite it would bleed and tear flesh off, bu it doesn't , any tips on that ?
Thaanks (:

Every time he goes into 'crazy mode', stop him and make him sit down, Ignore any whining/biting/ect and do not let him get up until he has fully calmed down, As soon as you let go he may go again, just make him sit again. He will get the idea. Wink
Also, Do NOT give him treats when grooming if he has bitten you- That just rewards him for doing so! I have not had to stop a dog from doing that so I am not sure the right technique for you, But definitely do not reward him for it to have him calm down.

What i meant for treats is i give them just for him to be occupied and not bite my hand. As for that excitement thing, its smart, i'll work it out tomorrow, thanks for the advice.

Try a bone or pig ear when grooming to distract him since he isn't used to it.

As to the craziness, that's called zoomies and its normal husky behavior. I usually just let Karli get it out of her system but if he's biting then its definitely a no no. As stated above, make him sit and calm down (or put him in his kennel to calm him down.) Sounds like he's got a lot of energy, how many walks or how much mental stimulation does he get daily?

Oh alright, That is perfectly fine. Smile Just do not let it escalate into food guarding at all, Which does not sound like a problem Smile
When I groom Loki I burn out every last bit of his energy and he just flops down on the floor for a nap and he does not mind the grooming anymore, Could drag him around by his feet for all he cares! lmao. If I try it before he has burned some energy he screams blood murder. Laughing I brush him like I do my own hair as to make it pretty painless. Smile

I walk him 3 times a day, normaly one hour each or more. He had rested yesterday before i groomed him, so i guess thats the reason of the craziness. I'll try that today .

when im grooming blu he doesn't nip or bite or anything he just fights it (like trying to get a little kid to take a bath, he'd rather stay dirty lol) but what i useually do is give him something to preoccupy him... which is useually a kong filled with extra crunchy peanut butter and cheese. that useually keeps him occupied for an hour or so. then he's completely fine with me brushing him or cleaning out his ears.

now for bath time thats something different entirely, he likes to play in the water but he hates bath's. so i turn bath time into a game, i put on swimming shorts and get in with him and bring a few toys and we play ball in the tub and i let him try to get the water from the faucet, then he will let me bathe him without any fuss.

it boils down to needing to be creative, huskies love to play games... you just need to find a way to turn the thing's they dislike into a game and they will more than happily go along with it.

My pup is the same way in that he nips at me when I brush him as well, not hard or mean, but enough where it's rather annoying. I've recently discovered a few tricks of the trade for grooming time: brush your pup where they are comfortable. Kato has his own couch so when he's laying on there and I brush him, he actually rolls over and let's me brush and scratch his chest.

Also, the time of day you do it helps. Kato only gets two meals a day, so if I wait until 5:30 when he receives his second meal, he's so distracted by his bowl that I can brush him in the kitchen (where it's actually convenient for shedding purposes) without him biting at me constantly!

I'm sure you already do but I make sure to tell Kato he's being a good boy when he's not nibbling on me so that he knows to repeat the behavior. Not all huskies are this way but sometimes I think Kato likes praise more than treats!
