i cant wait to pick him up on monday . i know early socialization is key for huskies but i know i should wait a little bit of time before he meets other dogs besides the family dog we have now. but when do you guys think its good to take him to meet my sisters extra hyper 10 month old black lab/shepard mix and other dogs?

For your sisters dogs, as long as they are up to date on vaccinations, there isn't a danger of him catching an illness from them. In terms of the socialization, I think you want to be a little careful there. On the one hand, the more the better, but on the other hand, you want to keep him from having as many negative experiences as you can, and by this I don't mean receiving discipline from an adult dog, I mean an attack, or an accidental injury. Some dogs develop fear based aggression if they are attacked. I sort of see this phase in their development as an imprinting phase. As in, they are very open to experiences and both good and bad can have an effect on them. If it were me, I would see how he reacts to your family dog, and after he settles in to your home introduce him to your sisters dogs one at a time. For time frame, I think a week would do it, but you just have to gauge how he's doing, they are all individuals. If he's timid, you definitely want to introduce new situations, but not too quickly, you don't want to overwhelm him. If he's bold, you have to be watchful to make sure he doesn't get himself in trouble with other dogs. If he's middle of the road, you just have to keep him safe.

ya thats what i was thinking. my sisters dog is "agressive" just a bit to playful i would say. the lab and my family dog tend not to get along because of his way to playful nature, its not that our family dog does not like him its just the 1st time they met was in our house which i know is a big "no no" in the dog world also that hes already 90 pounds and she 25 pounds and he wants to do is jump on top of her, plus our dog is ten years old and shes tries to be nice to him she will go up to him sniff him for a little until then just goes to one side of the room and just minds her own business until he jumps on her again then she barks and he backs off a little. it also does not help my sister has been struggling to calm and train her dog. so like you said im gonna wait a little bit i dont want his first experience with another dog (besides ours) to be a bad one. but im sure once hes settled in both of high energy dogs will get along

Yeah, it sounds like he will have a good playmate when he gets a little bigger. Some big dogs are really great with puppies and small dogs, they know to be gentle in play, discipline at the right moments, and others think they can play like the puppy is their size. It sounds like your family dog will be a good influence on your puppy and teach him how to interact with other dogs. Once he gets his final set of shots, you can start taking him out and about to meet and play with other dogs.

ya i really excited for the three dogs to meet, iv read in alot of cases if two puppies are together they tend to be less hyper because they tire each other out which is good for my dog and our new puppy balto

He is 9 weeks today. I would have been happy to bring him home a little sooner, but, it just worked out better to bring him home this weekend. I'm on vacation next week so I can work on integrating him into our home with the cats. Also, my hubby is a professional musician, and will be leaving for a 3 week tour on Saturday. Since he works during the day at home, I wanted to have some time to get things settled between the cats and Dizzy.
