| My husky is about two years old and she has a major fear of water. Normally this would not be problem but she has a bad habit of choking herself when I tie her down for her bath. Is there anyway to stop this fear or maybe just a way for her to stand still when i bath here? |

| I never washed a dog who was afraid of water but I used to bath my cats in the shower. Cats are notoriously horrible to bathe. I had to do it without tying them down because they would seriously choke themselves to death. I had to be very calm and take it slow. I would fill a bucket with comfortably warm water in the sink (my cats would freak out if I turned the faucet on in the shower--I dont know why but it scared the shit out of them) and bring it to my cat in the shower and gently pour the water on them. It was tedious going back and forth to the sink and grabbing the sipperly kitty who would try to get out. BUT, it got the cat clean and I didn't lose too much blood.
Dont expect her to magically stand still. You have to manage her fear by being calm and gentle. |

| Try de-sensitizing her to the shower or bath. Kind of like you would a crate, maybe randomly through toys and treats in the bath tub or shower. Then get a cup of water, and while rewarding her with treats, slowly pour the water on her. It won't happen overnight but I have found keeping the bath tub tap on while using a giant cup of water to pour over the dog worked best for me. I also close the bathroom off so they cant escape.. because they certainly try. |

| Loki hates water, Just a damp cloth to clean his face up makes him react like a cat! I have to corner him and wrap myself around him to get his face clean. And, If I turn on the sink he will take off running to the other side of the house. But, I found if I pick him up and put him in the shower with me and close the door (Oh, Did I mention having to tackle him as he drags me out the door 5 times first.. ). Then he is NOT happy, but he puts up with it. I use luke warm water and he just sits against the wall pouting. Make sure you have something in the drain that will catch all that fur! That is what works best for me. I hope you find something that helps you with her personally! Might start with just enough to get her paws wet and just play with her and do something she really likes to do, But just in water, Until she slowly starts to like (or at least tolerate it) and just start with that at small amounts of time, without bathing her, and slowly build that up. And, Always make sure you give her a good reward when its over with!! If she likes how it ends, she will be more tolerant of it starting! |
