| We have had a neighborhood cat pestering Nanooks in the morning..6am like clockwork. Nanook goes outside, finds it by the chicken coops and chases it off, normally that ends it. Starting Monday morning I hear him barking like always and about 5 minutes later he come running through the doggie door crying like he had a limp torn off...he is fine. I figured he leaning against the chicken coop and one pecked at him or something along those lines. Yesterday morning ...same thing. So today I get up to see exactly what he is doing to make himself cry. I hear him barking so I jump out of bed to look through the window so I can watch him and before I get to the window he is yelping and running through the doggie door...with the cat hot on his tail! The cat is no longer being chased off but instead is chasing my dog LOL....I didn't see the interaction between them so I do not know how that went and Nanook seems fine (other then the yelping like he is mortally injured) and the cat seemed fine. The cat is a HUGE cat...as of right now maybe only a few inches shorter then Nanook .... so do I just let it play out everyday until Nanook is bigger and hopefully the cat stops coming into the yard or until they learn to get along and become best buds LOL I do not want either of them to get hurt so I am not sure what to do. |

| I had a similar problem with my cat when we brought our Husky home. The cat was found in a barn last summer as a tiny little thing all scared, took him home and he's been deathly terrified of anyone and everything that's not me ever since. I still consider him "wild" in most situations because that's how he reacts to everything, with wild instincts. After Mila chased poor Baby Cat the first night we brought her home, I kept them separated for a while which only delayed things. So then I tried forcing them together and rushing it along for them to be friends or atleast coexist. This actually made it much much worse. I decided to just let them figure it out themselves, and after a few episodes and one bald spot on the cat later they actually coexist just fine now. Not best friends yet but they can be close to each other and be fine. There are still episodes where Mila gets in BIG trouble for chasing the cat, but for the most part they do just fine hanging out together. I would just let them figure it out for themselves and monitor it if you can to keep anyone from getting hurt. Animals have too many and too strong instincts, sometimes we just have to step back and let them use them |
