Questions about bringing pup #2 home Empty
PostSubject: Questions about bringing pup #2 home   Questions about bringing pup #2 home EmptyThu Apr 11, 2013 9:04 am

So most of you know I get to drive 3 hours on Saturday to bring home my new baby boy Jax! YAY Very Happy! I am undecided if I should bring Selena with us or not. The breeder said she encourages it, and honestly I don't want to leave her home for the 6-8 hours I am gone. Do you guys feel it would be a good thing to introduce her to the pup there?

My other question if I take her would be..where should I put both of them to ride home? Selena lays in the back seat and just sleeps but not sure how that would be with a new puppy. I have a SUV so I was wondering about crating the new pup in the way back and putting Selena back there as well? But then again it is a long ride and dont want the new pup to feel alone and scared in the crate! Thoughts/suggestions would be great!!! Smile

I agree that it's wise for the two dogs to meet away from home....so there are no "turf" issues. Neutral ground idea. We held our babe all the way home, and it was 6 hours. I would be inclined to crate the older dog for the ride. Easier to control the situation while being focused on driving. Good luck.

I honestly wouldn't. I didn't take any of my dog's with me picking up the new pups.

My main concern was that I would be making a long trip and I would have to worry about my dog playing too rough with the new puppy and I wouldn't be able to watch fully, because I would be driving. If you have an adult riding with you and would be holding the puppy, then it would ok. Take into consideration though, you're old dog is going to be excited and wanting to play with the puppy and is probably going to be pretty vocal, especially trying to keep them apart. That could be a distraction for you, so take that into consideration as well.

I let all the dog's meet outside the house and everyone has done fine.

Whatever you decide to do I'm sure will be just fine. Good luck.

Selena has never been crated a day in her life so I don't think that would work out great Rolling Eyes My mom is coming with me for the ride so I would have her drive back so I can sit in the back seat with the dogs and keep an eye on them. Just undecided if I should take her or not scratch Thanks for the replies!

Do you guys recommend I hold the new puppy? Not crate him?

I brought Embry with me when I picked up Zoey. We let them play in the house on neuteral territory and they did great, I definitely recommend it. If you have the extra person to help you, and the breeder is okay with it I would go ahead and do it.

I would crate him just incase, or at least bring one with you.
