2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

G'day from Western Australia Empty
PostSubject: G'day from Western Australia   G'day from Western Australia EmptyTue Apr 09, 2013 12:46 am

HI all

My name is Jason and I am a 44 year old Western Australian. I recently had to put down my beloved Schnauzer of 14 years to old age and am looking towards another doggy companion.

My wife is from Kamchatka in Russia and has previously owned a Husky as have many of her friends and family, she believes in no uncertain terms that the Husky is most wonderful of all dog breeds.

I have always loved the look of Siberian Huskies but will admit to previously not knowing anything about the breed. I have always thought Western Australia to be the last place in the world to keep a Husky happy and comfortable.

After a bit (well a lot to be honest) of research into the breed here, I have found to my surprise and excitement that there is a very active Husky group here! Very Happy

My wife daughter and I went to a dog sledding open day on the weekend and breeders of Show Huskies and also Race bred Huskies. There is a very active group of around 200 dog sledders.

The day was a social meet and greet day and was 34C and all the dogs seemed happy - but they don't race in temp over 15C so this is restricted to winter.

100% shade is essential here and obviously lots of cool water and many use plastic clam shell swimming pools in summer.

So to say we are excited is an understatement Laughing We are going for a home visit to a respected breeder this coming weekend. I am impressed that this breeder requests that potential buyers complete and application and questionnaire that they review before inviting you to their home to visit the parents. If they deem you fit to own a Husky a deposit is required to go on the waiting list. If all goes well for both parties we will be looking at Nov/Dec for a puppy.

I look forward to reading and learning from the experienced people on this forum. Please accept my apologies for such a long-winded introduction.

Cheers

Jase

I totally agree with your wife that the husky is the best breed of them all. <3

Shaqua has done fine in warm weather. Granted she is mostly an inside dog, she doesn't seem to mind the outside during the summer. She still runs around like crazy. Yes, shade IS important.
