We use the coarser side first and then switch to the finer side once it's combing nicely and easily. Does great work on the pants region as well as the tails.

When I went to get brushes for Ripley (could not for the life of me find the slicker brush we had for a long haired cat we used to have), I asked the clerk for an undercoat rake & she tried to convince me that I'd be better off with a comb & a furminator!  I told her I wanted an undercoat rake & a slicker.  The response I got was pretty much along the lines of that the rake was an over priced item that a comb can do just as good of a job.  That a slicker would scrape the poor pup's tender skin & since they shed so much, a furminator would be a great investment.

So I grabbed the coarse comb & a brush with nubs on the ends (pictured below.  I figured if that didn't work well, I can use it for my horses' tails.  I used to have one for our rough coat collie. Ends up she hates the brush. Haven't tried the comb yet.)




So needless to say, I'll purchase probably a T-brush (a groomer recommended it) or undercoat rake (not sure, what would you guys recommend?) & a slicker brush at a different store.

Dumb question when big clumps of hair start to come out does that mean ther are almost done? Lol for about a month koda shedded just pieces but a lot. This week clumps started to come off.

From what I understand, yes. Means it's blowing out.

OK, so a $40 Furminator (aka. blade that cuts fur) is a better "investment" than an undercoat rake that costs $12? Puh-leeze.

I know lol!! He is worth it. I just feel like this blow is a lot longer than last time. People drive by and stare at me when im on my porch making it snow in june with his HV dryer lol!!

Ami is taking forever to blow his coat - though I think I've lost 2 dogs worth of fur this spring. He started sometime in Mar and is still going!

Since he doesn't sit still very long for grooming, I take whatever opportunity I can and yesterday it was on our walk while he was working a chipmunk hole (the chipmunk scooted out between Ami's hind legs almost immediately, but let's not tell Ami that  )As he was occupied with digging the hole, I stood on the side of the road, finger grooming, removing fistfuls of pantaloons and tail. There is now a carpet of long strands of fur which I am sure some bird will put to good use! The only down side was the the occasional snoot-full of dirt as Ami excavated
