PostSubject: I think koda is sick. Update! With questions about kibble   I think koda is sick. Update! With questions about kibble EmptyTue Apr 02, 2013 8:46 pm

Ok soo for the past couple weeks koda has had runny poops.. He is in the process of switching foods from bbw puppy to earthborn holstic primitive nature i think its called.. The bbw was makin him real super gasy and with all those rumors about them i decided to switch. He still is gasy but its a lil better. i dont i dont know if its from whats left of the bbw or the new earthborn. Last week i gave him some pumpkin to help with the food transition. It seemed to help a little but was still runny. I was just gonna keep letting him get used to the new food and see what hapenes for a few days when he is fully on earthborn. Which should be sometime in the next week or 2.. Last nite i bought him a new stuffed femur bone i think it was called.. And today in the last 2 hours he made me take him our 4 times which is very strange for him. The first 2 poops was a very little bit of runy yelloish poop tht kind of had a texture of jello. (I know gross i wont be eating jello for a little while lol) the 3rd one was just a drop or 2 of what looked like water. Barley notheing came out. And the 4th was like the first 2.. Im assuming the problems are from the new bone... But i know his stomach is pretty stressed between the food change and bone. Is there anything i should do to help him? Or is there something i should look out for

I would put him on a very bland diet. Something with a simple carb and protein. You can try some boiled eggs with boiled carrots and maybe some pumpkin too. No treats or any other food. I would try that for at least a week (get his stool solid for a week) and then try the earthborn- forget BB. No other treats! His tummy has to calm down!

I wouldn't give him anything else right now, just let it work itself out.

I would probably give about 1 egg and a cup of carrots with a spoon of pumpkin twice daily, if he can handle that perhaps add another egg or 2... How much does he weigh?

Ok so koda has been going out every 20mim to poop.. On the way outside he pooped all over the living room floor. I wasnt mad at him i uderstand he is sick.. I feel so bad.. But that was when i decided i need to call a vet. So i called a local emergency vet place and told them what was going on. She said try yo give him some kaopectate. So i drove to walmart at 2:30am and got him some.. I gave him the amount she told me.. Took him outside so he can try and go again real quick then headed downstairs to our room and he threw up 5times. He theew up food that he ate earlier and all the medicine i just gave him.. I called them back they just said call the vet in the morning and if he gets any worse to give them a call back. She said even though he is UP to date on shots, he could have parvo, but i dont think its that i think i made his stomach a mess between the foods and bone. But im gonna call the vet first thing in the morning and ill update this again

Take a look at this thread:
https://www.itsahuskything.com/t9050-help-5-month-old-husky-soft-watery-stool-never-solid

This will help you with what you can do to help calm Koda's tummy, bland diet recommendations, portions, and transition once Koda is having normal BMs.

How is he doing? I had a foster once that had giardia. The only thing that got him back on track was no food and limited water for 24-48 hours Then I added chicken broth, then rice cooked in broth, then actual cooked chicken plus rice. Eventually went back to kibble after that and he was fine. It seemed like his stomach just needed to clear and settle. Be careful with limiting the water though, so he doesn't get dehydrated.

Took koda to the vet this morning after a very very very long night.. Basically he just has a upset stomach. He gave him a shot of something to stop the vomiting, and medicine for the next 5 days for his diarrhea. I am going to wait to feed him anything unil later tonight. The vet said i could go back to the mixed kibble, but i think i am going to do a bland diet for a fews days. They did blood work and everything came back good.

So glad it's nothing serious. I had the same issue with Kody when he was about 9 months. That boy has such a sensitive tummy! Anyways, the vet gave him a shot and meds as well. Which helped, but I didn't got back to the kibble (as he suggested). I did the whole boiled eggs/carrots thing for a few days. Once he firmed up I started adding the boiled chicken and eventually the new kibble. Thank goodness for the people on this forum or I would have never known about the bland diet!

Hope that Koda feels better!

Found this on internet. Does thisseem good?:

Ingredients
Rice, 2 cups
Skinless, boneless chicken, 1 cup
Cottage Cheese, 1 tbsp
Yogurt, 1 tbsp
Canned pumpkin, 2 tbsps
Small potato, 1
Water, 4½ cups
Procedure
Bring water to boil in a pan. When it starts boiling, add the chopped potato, rice, and chopped chicken to it. When the rice and chicken starts getting cooked, add canned pumpkin, cottage cheese and yogurt to the pan and stir it well. Simmer the recipe until all the ingredients get thoroughly cooked. Cool it down and serve to the dog.

I'd stay away from that recipe, rice and chicken can both cause issues. Stick with the eggs and a little pumpkin, and try green beans instead of carrots. Hope he feels better soon!

Straight out of the can is fine, just make sure if you're using canned beans that they're low in additives like sodium. When I had to do this with Ghost when she was a puppy, I actually used fresh green beans from the produce department.

I agree I feel you have a lot of different foods in that recipe. I would consider pumpkin, eggs, and green beans. I feed fresh green beans to my pups granted only one will eat them. I feed them as a filler so they don't eat too much and put on weight.

You want to limit the ingredients as much as possible so that if your pup still has an upset tummy, you will know exactly what is causing it. If you start off with more than 2 or more, it'll be harder to figure it out.

Using pumpkin is good to help get a tummy settled if you already know what is causing an upset tummy. In your case, you don't. So adding pumpkin now will only put a band aid on things and mask what the real cause is. Also, too much pumpkin can also cause loose/runny stools.

If your pup does not like carrots, you can try green beans and mash them up with the eggs so he can't eat around them. Or, try frozen green peas (thaw them out first). One or the other.
