This topic has been popping up a lot. And I have seen so many pictures on facebook of children really pushing a dogs limits. And their parents are too busy snapping pictures to realize how dangerous this could possibly be. It's important for everyone involved (parents, children, and dogs) to work together for a peaceful and uneventful co-existence.

That made me cry...for the child and for the dog.

I don't understand why he had Lloyd put down..

I never understand actually. I never understand why they put the animals down. Maybe it's cause I don't have kids..but I just don't get it.

So very sad. A two year old was killed a few days ago in my area by their 8 year old Am Staff who had never shown any signs of aggression. A week before that another two year old was killed by the family's seven dogs when she slipped out the back door. I have a two year old, so these stories hit me particularly hard.
Kelsey, I didn't used to understand it either.... until I had kids.

I think its law that a dog involved in a biting death is put down, i may be wrong but i think remember hearing that somewhere at one point or another. I dont have kids either but im not sure how i would feel about a dog that had, how ever inadvertidely, killed my neice or nephews. I couldnt say what i would do and pray i never have to.
Jaspers not always comfortable around my nephew fred and with my sister having another little one on the way im kind of preparing myself to have to make a difficult decision, though i dont want to and i generally hate when people do it i have to say for the safety of my nephew and the future baby if i have to rehome jasper to a home better suited for him then i think i could. But im really hoping i dont have to!!

Well I'm not exactly sure... But I think that they're put down because no one else would take them...

Think about it, if a dog (accidentally) killed a child even if the parent didn't want the dog put down, they would bring the dog to a shelter because they are scared that another one of their children might be in trouble (either that or animal control takes your friend away by force). Then no one would want to adopt him because he has a killer record (although again, probably completely accidental) and he'd be put on death row anyways.

This story is very tragic, I can't bear reading stuff like this, it makes me sad

I love my dogs to death, but I don't think I could in good conscience keep a dog who caused the death of my child. I don't think I would have been as blind to obvious stresses on the dogs and don't think my dogs/children would ever be in that situations but what everyone should take away is how important it is to respect your dogs boundaries and teach the children to respect them at all times. This is very preventable. There are a lot of trainers out there who encourage families to correct growling and make the dog accept a baby crawling all over them. No. No, no, no, no, no!

wow, that was a very sad story... im actually crying (it takes alot to get me to cry). that has got to be the sadest story i've read in a long time, that family lost so much with in such a short amount of time.

In New York state the law is if a dog bites a human at all they are put down. The worst part is it doesn't matter WHY the dog bit, if it does it has to be put down. When I was young me father was trying to untangle my dogs leash from around his neck and he pushed him back as he whipped his head forward and had my father's hand in his mouth. My father flinched back but caught one of his teeth on the way and tore his hand pretty bad. A complete accident certainly not the dogs fault and they still made us put him down. Some states don't care and err on the side of caution a little too much.

That just stinks, honestly why would they make a stupid law like that?

Great information but dang talk about crying your eyes out that is so sad, If Micole ever killed my niece I would have to put her down. I don't think I would be able to keep her. But like what was said HAVE to pay attention to a dog that is distress.. Correct it before it gets to this.
