| Well, leave it for my first post here to be a doozie. We're expecting the arrival of our new Husky puppy (male) in May. We are SO excited and I absolutely can't wait to snuggle with that ball of fur.
We are pet people and since we don't have kids, we spoil ours obscene amounts. We have 2 Chihuahuas and a Pug, a cat. (And a horse, but the Husky won't be going to the barn.)
I'm a bit nervous about the size difference and the prey drive, but I am hoping that the young age of the puppy will help. Socialize and supervise are key I know. But for those of you who have smaller pets what is your advice?
Clearly my biggest fear is it not going well, but we are pretty good at pack integration. The current pack gets along and we don't have problems with other dogs. My Mom brings both her larger dogs to the house with no issues. (One is actually a pretty aggressive Ridgeback mix. Even she seems to like our dogs.)
Anyway, since we are new to Husky ownership I wanted to ask you guys for some tips! Thanks!

| I have a dachshund mix and two cats and all get along swimmingly the key is to train your pup early on that when the smaller dog says "no" that they listen and not push it. Kale knows that he is bigger than violet and actually lays down and plays; and when Vi is done she runs off. I taught Kale that when Vi runs to her bed, he is not allowed to follow and bug her. As for the cats, I let them work it out lol usually the cat will put the pup in their place early on. Kale is actually afraid of Tabitha, she'll make a new hole in his head if he messes with her. The thing to work on the most is chasing when the cats or small dogs run. When they are really little, it's easier to curb the chasing. If it is still an issue when the pup gets significantly bigger than the cat and dogs, that's when I would leash your Sibe and give corrections as the come. Proof lol Kale and Tabitha Kale and Violet sharing Kale's bed (with a high value antler on the bed as well)

| We only have Hunter and Milla, but we do have a cat who will put them both in their place if they get to frisky. Both pups cope well with smaller dogs, theres a little 5kg nothing dog at their dog school and they no they can't play with him if they get to rough. It all comes down to learning and training and most of all being vigilant. |

| Thanks you guys! This makes me feel SO much better. I also love the "proof" pictures. Haha.
I discussed my concerns with the breeder several times and she said what you both did. Start young, train, and all should be ok.
Honestly, I'd never thought I'd get a husky. My friend has two Huskies and that did me in. I had been considering a larger dog, but I didn't know what kind. I loved that they were all personality, friendly and oh so beautiful. They do have a cat and they get along.
Here's some pics of their Huskies. If you look through the site there are lots of my 3 "smalls" and the cat. |

| We have a pug and our husky- they are BFF's. We got Sophie the husky as a puppy so with her initially being smaller than Libby they were able to work stuff out. Libby is still able to pin Sophie down on the couch when they are play wrestling- its pretty funny to watch. With Libby being 9 now though and only wanting so much wrestling and playing... we made the jump to getting a 2nd husky that will love to run and wrestle like Sophie does.
IMO- if they are young they will learn how to play well with each other. The 'gentle' and 'nice' commands helped greatly with Sophie learning how to play gentle with Libby.
Libby is much more independent than Sophie, so you will typically find Sophie snuggling up by her vs Libby seeking her out. |
