I'm trying to figure out if Kyra has another breed in her, I don't know much about the exact standards for each breed to know if she did have something else in her, what it would be.

Reason i'm asking is we have a friend with a husky and when he came to visit he was set on her being another breed other than husky due to how close set her ears are, how long they are and aren't completely covered in thick hair yet. Also, her tail is out of this world lol...only when she walks or going somewhere exciting will she curl it up above her back other than that it is pretty much always down or waging side to side, up and down and all around lol. He was also concerned that she didn't "talk" and only barked when he was here. She talks now( I encouraged it to kind of prove she can, bad idea lol) she goes between both talking and barking lol I don't mind if she is another breed but I definitely want to know if she is so I know what i'm trying to work and train with! Is anyone able to tell through pictures?

Also, We got her from a family that personally owns the parents and they wanted a litter from them. (after being on this forum I see now how that is a bad reason to breed) they did all the right things in taking care of them but realized how much work it was and refuse to breed their dogs again lol, there were some small things they didn't know to do that a breeder would for example, removing the rear dew claws. Regardless I fell in love with her whether or not she was purebred. All I cared about most was that I got a healthy happy pup as the one I tried to have prior came to me from the breeder with parvo and died within 24hours.

I think she looks purebred. All white huskies do have a tendency to look a little like shepherds, but I think she's probably all husky.

Sidenote, she looks super thin in those pics you posted. How much/what are you feeding her?

She looks purebred to me. She actually kinda looks like my Sophie, Sophie is also very thin and is just now putting weight on. Except Sophie's ears are set a little lower.

Yeah I know! - I recently posted in the nutrition forum about it. i'll post the link if you wanna get caught up! Also she's 14 weeks and just shy of 20lbs

Just because someone owns a husky, doesn't mean they are an expert on the breed.

Granted, that being said, neither am I. But here's what a do know. Huskies have many different coat types. One being less desirable doesn't make it any less husky. Her ears look fine. She's young and hasn't grown into herself yet. Some huskies never talk. It's a personality thing, not a "must have" trait of the breed. A husky not howling is like a human not singing. Doesn't mean they can't just because they don't. Just means they choose not to. Same with their tail. So long as it curls, it's a personality thing as to whether it does a lot or not.

She looks like a beautiful young husky to me. Don't worry about it

My boyfriend said the same thing pretty much. Our friend is very competitive so it could have been a way to knock her down and prove that his dog is the ideal, perfect husky...which is something he would do! lol

I figured if anywhere I would check her for some type of clarification

Melissa911, I have been getting the same slack about my Kobi. Everyone in my family has told me he isn't a husky because he doesn't have the blue eyes., and ive had people tall me he has shepard or wolf in him etc.... The woman I got him from( close friend) had gotten him from a couple who's two husky's had a litter. She told me that the only dogs they had on the property were 3 unaltered husky's and the pups. Probably a BYB. I to thought about the possibility of a mix breed and wanting to know for medical reasons. As of this moment I'm not bothered by it ( being a mix breed), I also remember reading something online about what Mgoblue has said about all white huskies, I just cant remember where lol. I hope you find your answers, She is beautiful by the way.

She does appear to be purebred, she is a product of her breeding which unfortunately was done without much regard to the standard. I do think though she is a bit on the concerning light side- easily happens with growing puppies, just be sure she's getting the proper nutrients in this early stage of life

I have to agree that she looks purebred. Lycus is mostly white and also comes from a BYB so he tends to have a shorter coat as well and I get a lot of people telling me he is a mix when he really isn't. I've also noticed white huskies tend to be shorter haired.

Right now she's getting 1 1/2 cup a day ( 1/2 cup 3 times a day) - but tonight I decided i'm going to increase her dinner portion to 1 cup so she'll be getting 2 cups a day from now.

She looks thinner than my puppy who is also 14 weeks, but she's also considerably taller and longer, it seems. Definitely a cute baby! As far as your friends goes, I've had friends like that (overly competitive to the point of putting other people down.) Kudos to you for being above it. I'm definitely not an expert, but she looks purebred to me. Our other baby, Ilya (not really a baby anymore) is a husky mix which I finally came to terms with around 4 months and love her all the same. Here is Nika at 13 weeks. She's much smaller but also seems fuller than your baby. I just weighed her today and she's only 16 1/2 lbs.

To me she looks like a purebred entering the gangly stage. She looks a lot like Luci at that age (Note: I'm not positive Luci is purebred either, since we 'acquired' her from skanky sister-in-law who claims her parents were both registered)

Edited to add: I get really annoyed by people like that. It almost makes me want to ask to post a pic of HIS dog so we can pick it apart.

Mine is almost 14 weeks and she is taller than mine as well. Just means she is going to be a big girl! I wouldnt worry about what they say about her she is very beautiful. I agree with one of the previous comments. Lets get her on here with a pix of her husky and lets pick on her... Its not very nice at all.

After scouring this website since we brought our husky home, I decided to actually sign up after reading this post. First, thanks to all who post on this site; the information and tips have been so helpful!

I wanted to comment because a few friends have recently commented that our pup, Lenin, doesn't appear to be a Siberian husky either. We purchased him from a local rescue that takes pregnant moms from shelters, lets them have their puppies, and then adopts them all out to loving homes. The rescue saw the mother, but we've never seen either of his parents although all his siblings were blue eyed grey and white pups.

The truth is I'm obsessed with the guy no matter what he is, but I'm so curious and would like your opinions. The only conclusion I can come to is that he's a back yard bred Siberian husky...he's just about 11 months now and below are a couple recent photos.

So...do you think he's a mix? If so, with what?

Doesn't look like a mix to me. 8 months to 15 months is kind of the awkward lanky stage. He'll grow into his ears and start to fill out soon. Once he does, he'll start to look more normal. For now, he looks like a typical adolescent husky to me!
