It wouldn't bother me if it were my dogs, I would not like it with my kids! We recently attended a husky meetup at a local dog park and I brought my camera and took pictures of lots of the dogs, so did several others, no one asked anyone's permission, and I didn't see anyone get upset. I did have one guy ask me if he could take a picture of my lab because he thought she was so pretty, which she is lol, I didn't mind.

If I bring my lot that's 7 from me!

So not to hijack the thread but I had a crazy experience while walking Saphire last night that totally made me think of this thread and reinforced my desire NOT to have random pics taken of my baby without permission . . . .

So on our walk last night we decided to do some exploring and walk in a new neighborhood because the weather was so nice. We are walking along, minding our own business when we are stopped by an animal control officer. The officer explains to me that a woman, who's siberian husky was recently stolen, reported that she saw a woman matching my description walking her stolen dog. When he arrived to take the report she provided him with a PICTURE of her stolen husky.

So he showed me the picture. The husky in the picture looked nothing like Saphire and I don't know what made the woman or the officer think it did. For one the husky in the picture was a grey and Saphire is BLACK. Second the husky in the picture was open faced and Saphire is not. Third the husky in the picture had two brown eyes and Saphire is bi-eyed.

I explained to the officer that Saphire was not stolen and that I had lots of proof at home if he wanted to follow us there I would gladly provide it. He said that wasn't necessary that he could verify her owner of record using her rabies tag (Who knew). So he pulled her rabies tag number up in the database (which I didn't know they had by the way) and checked that my information and her micro-chip number matched the database. He apologized for any inconvenience and let us go about our business.

On the one hand, given all of the recent husky thefts in our area, I was happy to see that he took her report seriously as I would want the same if it were my baby that was missing. On the other hand the thought that someone could hand a radom picture of my dog to an animal control officer and say she was theirs scared me.

Anyway just one more reason I won't be allowing strangers to take pics of my pup. It is really creepy!

A stolen dog report will require more than a simple picture to identify the stolen dog. It's not like someone can walk by, take a picture of your dog, report your dog stolen and get possession of your dog. That wouldn't make me any less comfortable with people photographing my dog.

People take my dogs pictures all the time. It's not a big deal.

I agree, especially at a dog park. A few months ago, a lady posted some old pictures of 2 of my now deceased pets. It brought back some great memories and I didn't even realize she had taken them but I thanked her for it and for posting them. I have no problems with people taking pictures of them in the dog park without my permission. On a walk or in my yard, that's different.

I'm cool with people taking pictures of just my dogs. Mainly cause Sky runs straight up to everyone with a goofy look on her face, so there's really no time for pleasantries before the "awwwwhh, lets take a picture" moment. I always smile as I watch from the distance, because the second anyone gets the camera ready, Sky bolts to the next fun thing.

If they want to take a picture of me with my dogs, thats a completely different and not cool story.
