In my search for more ideas, tips, tricks to get Libby comfortable around my husband, I found this:

"You want to avoid any direct contact with your husband, where he is looking at her and/or approaching her directly. He should completely ignore her. This may mean that someone else needs to take care of her for a few weeks. He sould always have treats on hand, and just drop them around the house. Also anytime she approaches him on her own, he drops one. He doesn't need to reach it toward her, look at her, or even say "good girl", just pretend she doesn't exist and drop the treat."

This was posted a couple years ago for someone with the same problem as me. We have been doing this and it seemed to be working, she is now approaching him cautiously. The problem is, she's expecting treats from him every time, she's getting frustrated and barking if he doesn't give her one.

I think we haven't really progressed at all now, she wants treats or wants nothing to do with him. She does still get onto the bed when he goes to bed, she loves to be pet by him there but only if I'm in the room.

I'm sorry it is still proving difficult but to be honest it sounds like you have made progress, because she is approaching him after all. Actually approaching and barking for a treat doesn't sound like fearful behaviour to me because if she was that afraid, she wouldn't approach at all. But obviously you still feel you have a ways to go.

First of all I'd say that it can sometimes take several months for a new rescue dog to settle in, and I'm sure you've got experience of that too but we have to let the dogs take some things at their own pace. Secondly it's very common for people to phase out treats too quickly, and the solution is just to phase them out really slowly instead. If we stop too fast then the dog gets frustrated and stops doing the behaviours we were trying to teach, so it can backfire.

Also, as you know, our huskies do like to talk to us and let us know about their day, which is one of the adorable things about them.
