| Subject: My husky won't run Sun Mar 24, 2013 2:21 pm | |
| Hi. My husky all of the sudden doesn't want to run. I started taking her on runs when she was a year old and she is now 14 months old. When I first started she would pull and pull and want to run as fast as she could. I kept her at a steady pace so she wouldn't overheat. Now it seems like she will only run when she wants to. I do live in Florida but I only run with her first thing in the morning or at night and I bring a camelback so she has water. I tried running in different places because I thought she was bored with are usual spot. I changed her harness and I didn't run her at all for a week to give her a break. I only run her between 3-5 miles a day about 3-4 times a week. Any suggestions? |

| Have you had her checked by a vet? That is the first thing I would do if my dog suddenly stopped wanting to do something she seemed to love. Also what harness were/are you using? If you happened to use one that chaffed under her armpits, she probably started to associate the chafing pain with running. |

| No I haven't took her to the vet yet I'm going to call the vet tomorrow. It may be the harness. It's not the best for running and it has gotten alittle tight on her. I'm ordering one from alpine outfitters. I'll see what the vet says. Thx |

| Definitely watch the chaffing. It's happened a few times with Paw Paw. I learned to put him on alternating sides so the harness doesn't rub on the same side each day, and to give him more days of rest/healing. That made the chaffing go away. Funny thing is though, he runs through the pain and would run all day and night regardless of the chaffing. Huskies are crazy when it comes to running. I love this breed! |

| Jus an update. I tried running her in the new harness and she ran as fast as she could and wouldn't let anyone run in front of her. I guess her other harness got to tight and was chaffing her. Thx for the help. |

| Good to hear! I'm sure you already do this, but make sure to check her paws regularly to make sure they aren't pealing.
Have fun!!
