crate - Pee in the crate help Empty
PostSubject: Pee in the crate help   crate - Pee in the crate help EmptyThu Mar 21, 2013 6:54 pm

So Baron and I's journey thus far has been amazing. He has been an interesting sibe regarding his crate however and shows some tendencies I've never seen in any of my other sibes or malamutes.

So we had in house potty training down by 5 months which was fantastic and only 2 messes ever. Now during crate training and regardless of whether it was 10 minutes or 4 hours inbetween breaks at work or my roommate coming home there would be a surprise waiting. All the way until about 8 months he would almost always (5 times a week either poop everywhere and or pee.

Now before going on we have since conquered our #2 problem about 2 months ago (he's 10 months now). Now he will wet his crate pad very lightly every day while I'm gone. Not enough to mark or ever really be concerned. Nothing that ever soaks into his coat (unless his pad is in the wash still from the previous night and I left without replacing it). It hasn't been a super huge deal other than more I would like bath times (Baron absolutely abhors bath time), daily pad washing and the occasional spill over onto the floor AKA the carpet and side of my bed.

Things I have tried: dividing the crate, even bought a new crate to displace all marking smell, daily shampooing of the carpet with intense formula to wash away any scent, always positive reinforcement every time we go out and he goes in the right place.

Once again not a huge issue because he has been the easiest sibe I have ever raised outside of this crate behavior. Since conquered our #2 issue it's been almost a non issue but I'm still looking for advice as I'm not stoked on rank smells and daily washings. Formulas maybe?

Any help or advice will be and is greatly appreciated!

Also note we have always done food and water a bare minimum of 2 hours before I ever leave the house and he's not coming. 30 minute walks also before I ever leave as well.
