Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

So Baron broke out of his crate for the third time this year lol. I don't really mind because he is mild tempered and leaves my things alone when he does but does any one else have a little escape artist at home?

Yes. We've started putting carabiners on the crate because Crispin will open the locks from the inside. We also have to watch him on doors without deadbolts because he figured out door knobs.

Pippa has only gotten out once and that was when my friend brought her dog over. She knew he was there, but couldn't see him, so she decided she'd take matters into her own hands.

Since then I've put a metal leash clip on the crate to keep it close. I was going to use a carabiner, but if she were to still get the door undone and REALLY wanted out, she could definitely squeeze through that open.

I don't think she's tried again, because if she had, I think she'd probably still find her way out. There are people on here whose dogs have literally bent the metal on crates to get out and even injured themselves doing so. When theses dogs decide they want out...they get out haha

The crate is nothing, wait until she starts trying to escape the yard or house. Denali was a master, from climbing a fence to going under the fence thru a hole with only a few inches clearance, to waiting until the front door opens and running at top speed. We were lucky to get her back each and every time she escaped.

Once Nunya figured out how to get out of the crate we stopped using it. He isn't destructive and having a dog roaming inside the house deters intruders Very Happy

Balon has learned to "open" every gate my husband used to keep him out of the hallway leading to bedrooms! Hubby doesn't want the hair in our or the kids rooms lol. Balon has gotten through each one, until this last one!

Thane broke out of his crate once as a puppy to see guests. After that he hasn't done it since.

Ha Ha Ha...I love it. First time I put Mish in her crate at night....10 minutes later she was out. Unzipped it from the inside. She can open the doors in our house and is really watching us lock the door, so I am guessing she will be able to unlock them soon, too! She can just about open a wire crate. But, I love her little mind!!!
