| Hello. Im new here. Im not really having trouble with finding the right food but i just want to make sure that im feeding my puppy the right food and that she gets the right nutrients. I have a female siberian husky named lillie and she just turned 5 months she was born oct 6 2012. i got her from a breeder and he was giving her purina pro plan focus for puppy (large breed formula) my dog loves it. i looked it up online and read the reviews some good , some bad. i took her to the vet to get some of her shots on feb 18 and she was 22 pounds. on feb 27 she was weighing 25 pounds and just last saturday march 11 she's 28 pounds. we feed her twice a day 2 and a half cup or 3 cups. 7am and 7pm. but it seems like shes always hungry and tries to eat at my other dogs bowl. so im wondering if her weight (28 lbs) at 5 months and 6 days old normal? also since she is teething we give her dental chews in between and treats for good behavior. this is lil |

| Welcome - I love her mask! As far as the dog food goes, when I used to feed kibble, I would stay away from Purina, Science Diet, Royal Canin etc. I was introduced to www.dogfoodadvisor.com through this forum and had Stark on Blue Buffalo Wilderness formula. I can't really help with how much to feed your pup, but I wanted to drop a little note (and say hello too!) |

| Hi,
My pup is also on the Purina Puppy for Large Breed. My Meeka actually likes the darn thing and give her about 3 cups (I don’t really measure, but rough estimate) a day as well and she always appears full.
Since I was also introduced to Food Advisor, I will be looking into a different brand of food once my 30 # bag is finished. I was going to look into Blue Buffalo but the price seems quite high so the only thing I can suggest is to research on the site and try out a few small bags to see if Lille even likes it.
By the way, I take that picture of Lil was taken in Chino Hills? That city is notorious for those white fences.

| I'm not sure if all pet stores do this, but they usually have sample sized bags that you can get to try it out before you commit to buying a small bag of food. Might be something else to keep in mind. |

| You say you are feeding her twice a day, and do you mean 2 or 3 cups each time, or just total for the day? I always feed young puppies 3 times a day, but once about 4-5 months I start with two feedings as you are doing. My Balon is 13 months and eats about 3 cups a day. He is still growing and my vet likes his weight. I had a tough time finding a kibble that he did well with. I settled on BB Wilderness Salmon, he does wonderful on it.
I would talk to your vet and get their advice on whether you pup is at a good weight, and if your feeding enough. But if the pup is going after another dogs food, it sounds like you may need to increase it a bit. There are definitely better kibbles you can feed you do can a search and find many threads where those more knowledgeable than I discuss them.
Good luck she is so cute! |

nope. it was taken in rancho cucamonga. i live in rancho . chino is 20-25 min away tho. haha. lillie loves purina too. i got her from a breeder and thats what they've been giving her.shes not hyper and really really shy and scared when i took her home. took her few days to adjust and not be afraid when we pet her. one of the few reasons why i gave her the same food and routine she had with the previous owner. |

Good luck she is so cute! thank you )) i give her 2 and a half or 3 cups daily. 1 and 1/2 cup in the morning 7am and 1 and 1/2 cup at night of pro plan focus. sometimes she could finish it and sometimes she doesn't. i give her 20 min to finish her food and if she doesn't i take it away. same goes for my other dog. she has this habit of going after my other dogs bowl and finish that off and then come back to her bowl and eat a few then just sits there (pretty much guarding the food) lol |

He was a LOT better on BBW than he was on whatever he was having before. He has a sensitive stomach, though, so we ended up putting him on raw. It's pretty time-consuming, so it's not really recommended for everybody. His poop on raw is ah-may-zing (I'm one of those people too, no worries! ) |

| The Blue Buffalo Wilderness puppy actually gave my pup really awful gas and mushy poops, I just had to change it to Wellness Core grain free puppy (3x a day up to 3 cups totals)...not sure if the food just didn't get along with her or if it's from whats going on with all the "negative reviews" about BB. Your pup is so cute |

| I have Lucian on Earthborn holistic puppy vantage. He does well on it. It's also a little cheaper than the other brands out there. I pay 44.00 for a 28lb bag. It last him a little over a month. He's only roughly 3 cups a day at the moment. The problem with brands like purina is they put a lot of fillers in their food, and the dog gets nothing out of those fillers, it just makes them feel full, with no nutritional value to speak of. So you can feed less of the higher quality food. A good indicator on how much to feed is how their poop is. If they are over fed it's likely they'll have mushy poo. As for treats, see if she likes carrots. I had this problem with Lucian. I would give him treats for potty training, and general training, only to be met by mushy poop later on. He loves carrots though, so I cut them up into smaller pieces, and use those for treats. Beautiful pup by the way! |

| Good Morning!
Cal is 17 weeks old, and he LOVES Now (Fresh) puppy... No grains or wheat, and he chows it down. I do a handfull of that in the morning/evening and a frozen meat bone with marrow during the day.
The food is a bit expensive but he seems to like it and is in great shape at 29lbs.

| This is just my opinion, but if everything is fine with your pup and her poops then why change? I mean unless its beneful or something like the McDonald's of pet food. I know there are a lot of people that really don't like neutro, but our 15 year old girl and been on the lamb and rice version her whole life and never had any issues. If the breeder was feeding the puppy the pro plan, and the puppy is healthy then, why mess with what's working? edit - by the way, i'm rather inexperienced with raw feeding and the holistic dog foods. I just wanted you to know that i'm not well versed in those areas. |
