2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Is it his hip or his knee? Empty
PostSubject: Is it his hip or his knee?   Is it his hip or his knee? EmptyMon Mar 04, 2013 4:48 pm

When Snoopy is active for a long period of time, like our six mile walk yesterday, his right leg twists inward while he walks and his toes point out. It doesn't seem to bother him, but is it his hip or his knee?
Is there anything I can do as far as strengthening exercises to help prevent a ligament tear or something else major?

It was something I noticed in both hindlegs when we first got him, but I figured they were just weak from being in a crate almost 24/7, but the right leg still does it. I don't think I'll do weight pull with him like I'd planned, I'm to afraid to do some major damage.

Did the breeder have the hips checked on hips on his parents? I would be a little worried if it's something that happens often. My best advice would be to take him to the vet and have some x-rays done to see if anything shows up.

I didn't get him from a breeder and the lady I got him from never got back to me on information on his breeder. I'm assuming they didn't though. I don't know if I want to take him to the vet for xrays unless it starts to bother him, at this point it doesn't slow him down at all.

So can I get him checked at a normal vet or do I have to go to a specialist?

When I got home Snoopy was fine but after they were done doing their wiggly-butt greetings his knee was acting up again :/

Any normal vet should be able to identify abnormalities with xrays or even with a simple physical exam in some cases.

Alright, I'll have to call the vet's office and find out if any of the vets have experience with back leg issues. I'm guessing hip dysplasia or LP, I'm still not sure.
