How do you wash a big dog bed? You know those big, clunky, funky ones that don't fit in the drier or the washer?

I want to get beds for my two. They've had them in the past but we had to throw them away because one of the cats peed on them and we couldn't figure out how to wash them.

Ideas?

Oh. And I don't want to go to the laundromat :c

All the beds we've ever had had a zipper on the side for you to remove and launder the cover. The inside cushion is covered in a water proof wrapping so you can wipe down/wash by hand... if yours isn't like this perhaps you can invest in a machine to steam clean it?

We used to put the beds out of the porch for the day and drench them with febreeze if we didnt feel like taking it apart, but all ours used to have zip off covers so they were usually washed every few months. Maybe hose them down and let them air dry?

I have the zippers with the waterproof pillows as well. They work well though my cats tend to lay on them more then my dogs.

We have the Kong one that goes in the crate. We take it outside, hose it off, and leave it in the sun to dry.

I have 2 old pillows that I use and I sewed a couple of towels together as a cover with a long flap that folds over and has velcro on it. I took two trash bags and stuffed the pillows inside and then taped the trash bags together, the the cover goes on over the trash bags. That kinda waterproofs it and I can just wash the homemade cover. I am going to get him a nice dog bed eventually, but since he's a puppy and I wasn't sure if he'd destroy it or not, I went with something cheap for now. But, you could use the trash bag idea to keep the stuffing from getting icky.

Maybe you could take it to a dry cleaner? That might be a little over the top, but they wash bigger things like comforters and stuff.

I would do what the others have said and try to find one with a waterproof, removable cover. Then wrap the pillow with a big trash bag like what Jen said. Smile

You could also take it to a laundromat. The ones I've been to have at least a few really large washers that will hold a bed.
