Advice on a second husky Empty
PostSubject: Advice on a second husky   Advice on a second husky EmptyWed Mar 13, 2013 9:00 pm

I currently have a 21 month old neutered Siberian Husky male and I am considering getting another. I have the opportunity to get male Siberian Husky puppy. I have a couple questions. Is now a good time to introduce a puppy to my current husky now that he is nearly 2 years old? Would two neutered males get along in the long run? What can I expect as far as jealousy from my current dog? Any tips on introducing a puppy? He has been an only dog the entire time I have had him. I have had a husky pair (male/female) in the past so I'm aware of the additional work. However, they were both rescued adults. This will be my first adult/puppy and male/male pairing? I'm open to any advice.

It all depends on your dogs personalities, but I've never had a problem introducing an adult to a puppy, especially huskies as they tend to love other dogs (if socialized properly at a young age, of course). Never had a problem with two boys either, in fact I prefer males and we usually only have one or two females in our pack at any one time, the rest are always males. Smile

Jealousy is possible of course, I'd just suggest always giving the current dog the attention first, even giving him more than normal once the pup comes, so he knows he's higher in hierarchy than the new guy.

Hope this helps, I'm sure others will chime in too Smile Congratz on getting another if you do! No other dog plays with a husky like another husky, in my experience!
