| Hello I get my puppy next week and ordered him the Wellness Core puppy formula. I wanted to do Orijen puppy but petfooddirect wouldn't auto ship to my APO and I am overseas in Germany. So it says crude protein is not less than 36% and Ive been reading that thats a lot of protein and to much protein can cause a dog to grow to fast and cause joint problems. But Huskies are high energy dogs so maybe its fine? What do you think should I switch brands? I was thinking about Blue Buffalo Wilderness puppy but its always out of stock online. |

| Moved to Nutrition and Feeding for you. Protein percentages are not so much what you need to worry about, it's Ca:P ratios. For large breed puppies you ideally want a 1.5:1 ratio, for small to medium breed puppies ideally a 1.2:1 ratio. Wellness Core puppy has a 1.5:1 ratio so you're perfectly fine there. Furthermore, the concern of overly fast growth affecting bones and joints is more of an issue with large/giant breeds. Siberians are a medium breed and therefore are much less likely to be an issue unless you've got a monster husky on your hands which you probably don't. Should you switch brands over the protein percentage? No. I don't like the manufacturers of Wellness (Diamond, Menu Foods, and ANI) which is why I no longer feed or recommend it, but I won't ever tell someone else not to feed it because of that. Ingredient-wise, Wellness Core and Blue Buffalo Wilderness are both great foods. I personally prefer Blue Buffalo over Wellness due to manufacturing though. _________________ |

| OK I was originally going to get blue buffalo wilderness but its out of stock. The bx at this base is starting to get blue buffalo but I don't want to get the regular blue since its only a 3 star dog food and I doubt they will stock wilderness but I was really set on orijen but I will stick to wellness until it doesnt work out with my puppy |

if you are wanting to get blue buffalo wilderness you could ask them if they can order it for you. |

What's wrong with the manufacturing? I've been feeding my husky puppy Wellness Core Puppy for almost a month now. Is there anything I should be aware of? |

| Orijen and acana are awesome. But very spendy. Check out Taste of the Wild : High Prairie. When my pup was young, I rotated orijen and the Totw. Started off with the blue bike buffalo, and it didn't sit well my my girl so switched it up. Never tried the wellness brand, because of diamond manufacturers. |

| They had a lot of recalls on their foods, for food quality issues. |

| Wellness is made by WellPet. I just looked it up. WellPet was purchasing/manufacturing their food at a Diamond plant but shortly after the salmonella incident, WellPet moved all of their manufacturing in-house. Is there anything bad about WellPet? I can't seem to find anything. Either way, I'm happy with the product thus far. |

| I haven't kept track of Wellness the past few years but when I last checked on it then their kibble was manufactured by Menu Foods, ANI, and Diamond. None of those manufacturers have a great track record. I am too busy with my youngsters to stay on top of who makes what and where these days. It took me this long to get back to this thread. _________________ |

| As of June of last year, WellPet now manufactures all of their foods in their own facility. There haven't been any recalls since then. I'm inclined to stay with them until something comes up. Although I could easily make the switch to Blue Wilderness. It's a lot easier to find the big bags of that than the Wellness brand puppy kibble. |

| There may not have been any recalls since then, but a look at their history reveals they have had recalls themselves. Looks like their last recall from the WellPet manufacturing plant was in 2012, not long ago at all. _________________ |

| - Quote :
- WellPet LLC announced a voluntary recall of one recipe of Wellness® dry dog food after being notified by Diamond Pet Foods regarding the presence of Salmonella in Diamond’s Gaston, South Carolina facility.
Since then, WellPet has moved their manufacturing to their own facilities. There haven't been any recalls regarding their food since. I believe WellPet made the switch to their own facility because of the substandard safety record of Diamond's manufacturing. |
