E Collar Fitting Empty
PostSubject: E Collar Fitting   E Collar Fitting EmptySat Jun 24, 2017 5:26 pm

Hey everyone ive got 1 husky and 1 malamute that im trying to get started on e collar training, ive read for hours on the subject but im having a really difficult time getting a consistent fit on either of my dogs because their fur is so thick, im using a dogtra collar and i ordered the 1" points but im still having trouble getting the fit i tighten it down pretty well too a few times they have started wheezing so i let it up but i can never get more than 1 or 2 fingers under the collar.
Do any of you have experience with fitting your dogs?

I have a wooly. Use a mini educator. I have small hands, tighten the strap so that I can fit my 3 middle fingers under the strap... And double check with one index finger under the prong.

Excellent site for ecollar training is Sean I'm she's the good dog training. Net also dctk9.com just published a wonderful video starting with ecollar. Both have multiple free videos for ecollar training.

What I do is part the fur in one spot as best as I can and place the contact points there so I know they're touching skin. Then I tighten the collar making sure not to move the contacts. I'm not 100% certain, but I think I've read that the ecollar tech "thick fur" points will work with the Dogtra collars, I definitely recommend them. Also, look into getting a bungee strap instead of using the one that comes with the collar. I got mine on Etsy and it was super affordable. Now I don't feel so badly about tightening the collar since there's a little more give to it.

In addition to Sean O'Shea, I highly recommend Larry Krohn who also has a ton of youtube videos as well as a really great book on training with an ecollar. Oh, and Lou Castle has a ton of free content on his site. Step by step on his protocol to conditioning the ecollar. I've been using his protocol to teach my dog recall. He's really amazing about answering emails and questions on his forum as well.

Good Luck!!!

This is the one I got. If you have an ecollar technologies collar I then the 3/4" is the right size (not sure about other brands). That Etsy shop sells both 1" and 3/4" sizes.
