| I've noticed Dakota has been having dry skin for the past 2 week or so, I know why its b/c we have had to bathe her more then I would like (for the last 2 weeks we had to 2 times) b/c she likes to roll in dirt, or the spot after she uses the bathroom and gets really dirty/stinky. We've been watching her and she's getting better at not getting too stinky now lol.
We will not be giving her a bath for a while b/c I don't want to make it worse, but my question is what can I do to help with the dry skin??? it doesn't seem to bother her, she isn't scratching or anything.
I read somewhere that you can add a tsp of virgin olive oil to her food and that will help, but I dont want it to cause any tummy issues/or diarrhea, as we just got her all accustomed to her new food (she had bad allergies/diarrhea when switching her food from Iams to BB).
I just hate seeing the dandruff look she has on her coat, especially since her back is black its more noticeable. |

| The 2 baths would do that. The same thing happened to Nova. Has the weather change drastically where you are? That can also cause some dandruff.
We started putting some Salmon Oil in his food at lunch and it is clearing up his dandruff. |

| Get a warm spray bottle of water and add some coconut oil. He oil will melt into the water and then spray it onto skin and coat. It will help |

| I give my pups fish oil everyday to help with the coat and skin. You can also use coconut oil in the food.
A raw egg will also help.
These should not cause allergies/diarrhea I think.
Try then slowly. about a teaspoon at first. or a fish oil pill you can use human grade ones or ones for dogs. |

| Selena has been the same way, her black back looked like tiny snow flakes lol. I actually starting brushing her with a slicker brush and have been using Petco's baby powder puppy wipes and it has helped a lot! I know coconut oil is a huge help when it comes to skin issues ( I went through so many skin problems with my chi and it worked miracles ). but I'm guessing your's is still a pup as well so I don't want to start giving her that until she is older. I would definitely recommend an oatmeal based shampoo when you bathe her again. |

| Have you tried using pet wipes instead? Huskies are sort of self-cleaning, if you give her time the dirt would proabably fall off (and onto your floor, lol). Mine has dry skin as well, part of it may just be puppyhood, puppies are more prone to dry skin. She gets some salmon oil I picked up at the pet store on her food. It's pretty pricy, but it lasts a while. Don't know how it compares to olive oil. If we give her the full dose for her size all at once, she does get a little soft, but spread out over all her meals and her poo is fine. I think it helps, but it also warmed up here at the same time I started with the oil, so who knows. I only eat egg whites, so she gets the yolk, which is also good for skin. Reducing the number of baths (you know this already, of course) and adding some heathy oils will probably help. If not, and it's not bothering her, I think it's mostly aesthetic, and not something to worry about. Mine is black too, so I know how you feel about seeing it, but so it goes. |
