PostSubject: Are they powered by snow?!   Are they powered by snow?! EmptySat Feb 09, 2013 2:25 am

So every time it snows or there is fresh snow on the ground my dog goes crazy, she has more energy than is normally possible. She must be running full out the whole time she's out and if she stops running then that means it's time to roll around in the snow like a maniac.
It's very obvious that she is having great fun but omg iit's like she's a puppy again. Anyone else have this happen to their dog?

Answer : Yes.

I came home from work today and let the girls out. We got 20 CMs of snow today with major wind. -18C for most of the day.

I tried to bring them in after an hour and they wouldn't have it. Ripley was sleeping on the deck in the middle of a blizzard while Tika was running laps around my pool. I forced them in only for them to request to go straight outside again right away.

It's 100% normal, even for those of us who have "abnormal" Huskies.

~Chris~

She's such a goof when she plays in the snow. It's fun to watch but pretty tough to keep up with her.

My two are IMPOSSIBLE to walk after it snows!! We use 10 ft leashes when we walk them after it snows. Sheba likes to jump from pile to pile and Kennedy likes to take bites out of the snow. If we used our usual 6 ft leashes..I would be dragged through the snow on my face!

Omg, just got our (first) husky puppy on Thursday, it was a blizzard yesterday but she kept running to the end of her leash and bounding around on potty breaks while we got snow blowing in our faces. Razz

This morning, I dug out the tie line we bought for camping with our Bichon, we got the 30lb. one just in case, with watching my friends dogs often - glad we did now!

We hooked her up to the front porch while 'daddy' snow-blowed the driveway and let her have at it!
Wow.. I certainly couldn't keep up with her, lol... the snow was almost up to my knees and she
was almost buried the whole time, she seriously nose-dived into a snow bank! And.. she kept burying her head like an ostrich, and even found a stick. >_<

If I ever get the chance I'll take a pic of Bella when it snows she always has snow on her nose from sniffing through the snow. She uses her muzzle as a shovel sometimes. Gonna take her out tonight when I get home from work for a thorough romp through the snow before it's too trampled to be not as fun.
The funny thing is the first time she experienced snow she HATED it. She wanted to go in almost immediately. She didn't understand why all this cold wet stuff was touching her. Now it is her cocaine.

I don't think it's just a husky thing, either that or Callie's part husky. She loses her mind when it snows and does about 50 laps around the house and digs like there's no tomorrow. It wasn't an easy task getting her back inside after the fresh snow.

I mean, now that we're in FL, problem solved, but I think it'll make for fun winter trips back north.

Ava goes crazy too. It can be the middle of the night, and I swear she knows when snow starts to fall outside and comes to wake me up for zoomies in it. Snickers even plays in the snow and he never runs anymore!

Snow is the fountain of youth when you have a senior or super senior husky.

Not only does Saphire go crazy playing in the snow after it falls . . . but starting about 24 hours before it snows she gets really hyper. She is more accurate than the local weatherman.

Lexi loves the snow, but I wouldn't say she goes crazy. She is very playful and loves to jump in the snow, but she does still listen (admittedly a little slower sometimes).

Lucian is the opposite. He gets more wired when it's warmer outside. He comes in the house willingly if it's cold, and then has the zoomies if it gets up to 40 degrees. I have a weird dog, lol.
