Anyone know any tricks to teaching stand (without moving)?

I've been clicker training Varu but unable to lure him into standing from sit or down. He'll follow the lure with his head until he can not longer reach it without moving this body then he'll just stop following the lure and look at me. If I walk backwards he'll wait for a cue 'come' to come get it. If I turn my back from him he'll stand and follow even if not released.

Tickle his tummy right in the nook in front of his rear leg that usually produces a stand. Say your command, tickle, praise/treat/click repeat. It's one of the ways I was taught to teach a stand in my first show attempt

I call that command pretty. I used treats. My mom's border collie knew it and she picked it up from him.

I'm not attempting to teach pretty (also often called sit pretty, where the dog stands on just their back legs.). I just want him stand on all fours from a sit while staying in the same spot.

It is a bit hard to teach an adult dog when they've been taught sit and down and not stand. I realized that with Siku. Taught Elara sit, down, AND stand from the get go and she learned quickly. Siku, not so much. lol. At first she'd just sit and look at me like "why are you waving your hands around?" The nudge with the foot trick works wonders and now she gets it. Just make sure you have a distinctive cue for stand.

He's a rescue from Tiawan so he knows no English cues. He didn't know to sit when I first held a treat in front of his nose so I'm not sure he had any prior obedience work. I'm essentially training him from scratch but have nkt been able to lure him into stand. Sit he caught on to pretty quickly, down took a couple sessions but he got there.

My cue for stand is I face the palm of my open hand toward them and pull my hand backward. Kind of hard to explain. lol. But with teaching anything new, it doens't really matter what the cue is or if it's a hand signal or word, you just have to be consistent with it. BTW, I use that hand signal, because when I was teaching stand I'd have the dog sit and then hold the treat with my thumb in my palm in front of their noise and slowly pull it away getting them to follow it and stand up from their sit. Like any hand signal, you eventually get it to the point where you don't have to do it right in their face and can do it without a treat.

Yeah I don't really care what hand signal or word I use as the cue the issue is I've been unable to lure him to stand from the sit or down position. When I put the treat in front of his nose and move it away he straetches his neck till he is no longer able then just looks at me for direction he doesn't stand to reach it.

Teaching a stand command isn’t much difficult but you may require patience. You can show a treat in your hand and hold it few inches away of his/her nose. Now slowly move your hand away up and take back slightly out of reach. Now wait for your dog to respond by getting up into stand position. If your dog take a stand position reward him with praise and of course with his favorite treat.
