Is it like Al-kai (sounds like alkaline without the "L"?)
Sorry just wanted to make sure - Haha. It's like alk-eye. Like alkaline minus the al and ne. Haha. |

- Malfoy. Mal-foy. I thought it was super easy to say yet people always have the hardest time with it or have no idea what it is from and look at me weird. Even when I prompt with 'You know...like from Harry Potter?' I get many odd looks still. I truly don't feel his name is hard at all to say.
What poor person wouldn't know it was from Harry Potter??? People. |

| My dog's name is Thane but people have called him Sane, Thang, Thing and Fame -.-. So now I just tell them the full name Thanatos but Thane for short and they seem to get it now. |

| S-A-B-A-K-A... no one can remember it to even try to pronounce it correctly. We pronounce it exactly as it is spelled. When the folks in the vets office have his chart in hand, they say it right. It's just that no one can remember it...
"Sabaka" is our way of Americanizing the Russian word for dog, собака. (If you want to hear the Russian pronunciation, translate "dog" from English to Russian using Google Translate. Then select the "listen" icon. My kids do it in order to freak Sabaka out because the computer is saying his name!) |

| being a husky owner and being on here for as long as i have been i will be the first to say you all drive me crazy with the husky names, i just sit here and make the names up in my head with how i think they are pronounced. i suck (learning disability) at looking at typed words and pronouncing them. when i read and come across words i cant figure out i make up new names, Claudia has experienced this from me a few times when im like you know so and so on the forum, and she stairs blankly at me and then i try to spell it and she figures it out and im like wow i was really off! husky owners are the only ones i come across that have such unique names for their dogs, i love it but hate it at the same time, i got lucky and sierra came as sierra and Jack was Nanook, we changed that real fast.
im sorry that i would be one of those people driving you all crazy when you tell me the dogs name. _________________ |

People have issues with Valerie? Nice... Just like you, our animals are all easy. I rejoiced, however, the day I got married and could change my last name. People butchered it All. The. Time. and some would mispronounce it just to piss me off. No one has screwed up the new one yet _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | I think Husky owners just tend to have harder names. I know for us, when we decided to get a husky, we immediately started looking for Russian/Native American names. It almost felt that since we had such a unique dog, we needed a unique name. I didn't think about other people having trouble pronouncing it. Haha.
Oh yes. My last name is HORRIBLY butchered as well. I feel your pain.

Hahaha. I know what you mean! My professors, friends...heck...even some of my family pronounce it wrong. It's awful. I can't wait to get it changed. |

| People get my name wrong all the time too. It's Ashleigh (same as Ashley) but I get Alicia, Alisa, etc. all the time!
My last name is a whole different story too. Lol. _________________ |
