crate - How should I divide my crate? Empty
PostSubject: How should I divide my crate?   crate - How should I divide my crate? EmptyWed Feb 06, 2013 8:43 pm

So I recently order the following crate for Vegeta:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OX64P8/ref=pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_ST1_dp_1

It's way to big for him, but I bought it so it could also be used as an adult. It comes with a divider so that I can use it for him as a puppy. Since it's so wide, 28", should I divide it so he will be lying perpendicular to the doorway (the front door would be to the left or right of his body when laying down) or should I have him laying so his head/butt is facing the door?

I have the same crate. I have it on the left side of my bed with the entrance facing outwards (in the same direction that my feet point). I gave him limited space in there and expanded it every few weeks a few inches to give him more space. He ends up laying however which way he pleases. I don't use the side entrance yet as he's still using the divider.

just a fyi, our crate is a bit too big for our pup who is gonna be 8 weeks old when we get him next week. we have the 36'' crate, which will be perfect for a ~6 month old husky.

we divided ours in about.....oh, a third off the overall length with a 2 foot long milk crate, which is just short of the width of the crate. we secured it with rope at the top and bottom and I can't move it with lots of force. It's virtually a piece of the crate itself now.

So we cut out about a third of the length of the crate and there is not enough room above the milk crate for the pup to get into.

We'll see how it goes next week, but it is very secure and immovable and does exactly what we needed it to do with no extra cost.

Cheers.

I tried looking on the forum to find out how big of a space everyone used for their puppy. I just set mine up and used the divider to make a 15" x 24" space from a 36" x 24" crate. Is this too big? Too small?

I'm using the front door (the one on the end) since the space I have is so limited. -_-

Peaches is 8 weeks old and our crate is 42" L x 28" W x 30" H. I divided it so that she has about an 11-12"/28" space. She has plenty of room for a big stuffed doggy, blanket and food/water dishes.
