Do any of you do this? Where if you say "crate" or "bed" they know to go to their crate/bed until you let them out/release them. My ex's boxer was trained to go to his bed and sit there until they released him and I think that would be a good tool if Vegeta is ever being overly obnoxious or could use it as a time out.

This is a good method for a dog only to be used as a calming method or a time for bed thing, never as a time out, if you send them to there crate for negative reasons then there bed or crate will become a negative place in there head and its supposed to be a happy thing so theygo willingly. Just a thought though. I would ddefinitely train your dog to go to bed or crate on command but only as a positive calming method.

I have Sheba trained that "bed time" means go to your crate. Usually I just have to touch the locks on the crate and she is going in as I am finishing my sentence. To train them every time the dog starts going to/into the crate, use whatever cue word/words you want them to associate with their crate. They pick it up very quickly as long as you say your command every single time until they learn it on their own. It's very simple!

Yes! We say "in your crates!" and they all go in! Well... except the youngest, they're still acting out but as they grow up, they'll listen better I'd say the youngest ones (1 year-olds) listen 80% of the time... the other 20% of the time there's a bit of a chase around the house but they eventually go in, haha. Sometimes I bribe with a bit of liver treat to make it easier if they're being especially naughty or I'm in a hurry.
PS - Vegeta is adorable. Pure whites are my favorites.

Varu doesn't have a crate but I've been training him to go to his blanket to lie down when I need him out of the way for a while.
I've been using this method:
We've gotten to the point where he'll go to bed if it is in view. Currently we're working on doing it from just outside the room where he can't see it.

I agree on not using the crate as a "time-out" area. I planned on getting a small blanket and using that as his "bed" so he can clearly differentiate between the two.
