2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

I've been thinking about trying this out, but I can't find a list of different places/ratings of those places to find them

I've got

http://weightpullharness.com/

and

http://www.blackicedogsledding.com/page5.html

But there has to be more options, online or in-store

I got mine second hand off Craigslist, but I used a black ice harness prior and was really happy with the harness quality.

Also-

www.fidogear.com/store/freight-harness-p-35.html
www.pulldoggies.com/weightpullharness.htm
www.ikonoutfitters.com/harnesses.htm

Many more, just search 'freight harness'.

Alright, thanks!

I'm paranoid about getting one for cheaper that's low quality or doesn't fit right, but I also don't want to spend a ton when I don't know how he'll take to it.

A lot of the organizations that host these weight pulls have harnesses they can lend you to give it a try.

The organization that I went and watched let's you use the harnesses and pull the 400 lb cart for $10, but I'm not comfortable with putting an inexperienced dog on a cart straight off. And I don't think they're having another pull in the area anytime soon.

Oh bummer, our club has a box of harnesses to try for free. How old is your dog? Unless he's too young they should have a cart handler to help once your dog starts pulling into the harness to give the cart a bump to encourage the dog's drive and help him realize he can overcome the resistance. I can't believe the empty cart is that heavy though, I know ours is not.

I know, right? It was a big cart.

He's only eight and a half months old, and I've been told by a competitor that putting a dog with zero experience on a cart straight off can ruin it. He/she (not sure of gender, they're on a different forum) strongly advocates starting with drag weights, like small lengths of chain, so I plan to do that once I can afford a harness.

I decided to save up for a cheaper, still custom harness and then, if it seems like it doesn't fit right, or put pressure on him weird pulling heavier weight, then I'll get a Brown Dog Harness.
