Forum Rules | 1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule. |

| right now i'm training Maya to Sit and i also want to do down, shake and heel to begin with. my question is do i just do them one at a time or can i work on more than one at a time?
she pretty much got sit down and will shake sometimes on command.
thanks |

| I personally would do one at a time. You may overwhelm her doing multiple things at once. At least wait a day or two between each one, so she has adequate time to learn each one. |

| I agree with Kelly. Once a command is mastered, a new one can be added. Don't forget to do the old commands and the new one at the same time so the old ones aren't forgotten |

| Definitely don't do them all at once. I made that mistake at first. I would make him sit, then paw, then lay down, and after doing that a few times, it didn't matter which one I said he would just randomly do one or two at once and look very confused. He still confuses them a little bit sometimes but gets all the tricks I taught him one by one a lot better. But like the last poster said, once she gets sit, keep using it, and same with the others. I always do one trick he knows, then a new one and thent he treat. It seems to work pretty well. |

| I guess I'm the weird one here. I sat down with Rogue at 10 weeks for about 20 minutes teaching her sit, down, stay, shake, and spin and after those 20 minutes she had them all down and never did the command at random. I guess it depends on the dog though. Koda worked better with one at a time, but I think that was mostly because he didn't feel like dealing with me and wanted to just sleep, haha. Rogue was a lot more food motivated and eager to please as a pup than Koda. |
