Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! | Koda started this new bad behavior.. Everyday he picks a different spot on the carpet in the house and starts scratching at it and biting it.. My mom will kill me if he ever actually ripes it lol.. Any thoughts as to why he is doing this or any ideas to stop it? |

| Dragon does the same thing and has even torn up a few places where the carpet and tile meet. We have tried spraying it with that bitter apple stuff you can get at petsmart and it works but you have to keep spraying everyday cause it goes away after a time. |

| Kingsley has done the same thing. I've seen him do it to his bed and I read that dogs do it to "make it more comfortable". It's part of their den living ancestry. Kingsley digs at the carpet upstairs and in one spot downstairs. I usually catch him in the act and instill the fear of god in him so he knows to stop immediately. Bitter spray will work, also. |

| Dragon also barks at the carpet. Don't know if that's part of the whole den making process too or if he's just special lol |

| I have several rips and tears on my living room carpet from Selena! (Good thing we planned on pulling it out to put in hard wood lol) I figured it's just the puppy stage thing ( my chihuahua did it too) so I continue to buy new toys and chew bones and now that she has about 100 toys and 10 beds she tends to leave the carpet alone lol. I had to put her larger bed over the spot she ripped the most so she wouldnt fully tear it up and I think she forgot about it..other than the occasional scratch |

| Is it carpet or a rug? Cato destroyed every rug in the house... |

| Nikko does the same thing. He will sniff around, and then pounce of the carpet and start digging at it while he barks at it. Then he will start biting it. He has done this ever since I got him at 9 weeks old, and he is 14 months now! He has chewed 3 holes in my carpet that I have had to repair.
When he starts doing it I yell really loud or slam my hand on the table to make a loud noise, or I will get down on the floor and distract him by playing or giving him a toy. He has not done it as much since I got the 2nd puppy, but he will still do it once in awhile.
I tried the bitter apple stuff, and like others said it will work for a few minutes but then it goes away, plus it never worked for Yukon because he likes the taste of it (and everything else for that matter!)

| Q did the same thing. Our floor rug was on its way out when we decided to get a puppy, so although we didn't encourage the behavior at all, we weren't devastated by the destruction. |
