| Hi, my name is Suzanne and I'm new here, as you can see this is my first post so I just figured I'd introduce myself before commenting on other posts and whatnot. We recently adopted an adult husky from the animal shelter (about 2 weeks ago) and so far everything is great. She's a pretty laid back dog and seems to have bonded with me quickly. It's only recently, probably now that she's more comfortable in her new home and with us, that she's taken to some new behaviors (i.e. digging). So far we're really happy with her and she's been a great addition to the home, and we hope she feels the same. I'm hoping this forum will help us along the way with tips, tricks, best practices, etc. I want to give her the best possible home and life! |

| Thanks for such a warm welcome! You all have beautiful dogs! I just updated my profile to include a picture of my girl, she's 5 years old. We live in Canada!
ljelgin - how did you find it bringing home your husky from the shelter at 2? |

| We have no Idea what her past life was she was pickup as a stray and no one claim her. Her and my other husky have bonded very well we got him at 9 months old from someone that decide he was too much trouble.
She is the sweetest dog more so than Blaze, she we always come to you when called. She is just a real lover. I think it is because she knows she has a forever home now and loves it. She has a few issues it just takes time When we first got her she pulled when walking terribly that has gotten better in the last 8 months. She has a few issues with food aggression which has improved as long as we work with her.
Good luck with your new baby. |

| It is nice to see some Canadians for sure! I'm from London, Ontario - just a couple of hours west of Toronto. ljelgin - It's good to hear that the two dogs bonded and that things are going well. It's sad when people don't do the proper research on the dog breed before getting one and then decide it's too much. It's good that she's in a good home and has another husky for company! How did you get the pulling under control? My girl, Neeka, pulls a fair bit but we're working on curbing that...it's not so bad, really. I'll have to look up a thread on walking the dogs to get some tips! jbealer - It's good to know from your experience how well they bond as adults too. That's comforting. I think when they're comfortable and know that they're in their new forever home it's hard not to start to bond. It really does feel like we've had her forever, she just fit right in. Neeka knows we're her people it makes me happy! |

| Oh - and Kellyb - it looks like you're from Montreal? Great city, I miss Quebec. I used to live in Ottawa and went for day trips and weekends there fairly often. Your huskies must LOVE all the snow you guys get!! I wish I had more snow for Neeka to play in right now (never thought I'd say that lol). |

| You have no idea how much snow we have. Tika could jump the 5.5 foot fence from a snow bank if she was so inclined (thankfully she isnt) they are loving it. Ripley wasn't terribly happy with the 40 below temperatures last week though.
Adopting an older dog is great Ripley was almost 5 when we brought her home, it will take a few months for her personality to really show, but its worth it. |
