| Hello all,
I don't know if its my lack of sleep today or what. I cant seem to find anything on here that might be helpful. I have also used the search option and it keeps giving me past HOTM threads. Kobi seems to respond well with food when training( I'm sure most dogs are lol), but when I am trying to train knew tricks or keep him refreshed so to speak with ones he knows or just general training its gotten to the point that he don't care about the learning part as much as the food lol. Normally its goes as follows, I tell him to sit with a snap of my fingers while point straight up. He does as directed. he gets half a treat with praise. I then tell him to lay down and snap my fingers while point down he does and i give him the other half with praise. He then after me telling him to do something like roll over for example ( he does know this one, and will do it) , will just stare at me then wants to paw, lay on, lick my hand that holds the treats and scoot all over the place trying to get to my hand. I am always putting my hand on his chest and pushing backwards telling him stop, but this doesn't always work lol.
Is there any thing that I can do differently or not do at all. Or a new tactic to regain his attention. Thanks for reading as I'm not sure this has been covered before, although I'm guessing it has lol. |

| It sounds like you may need to redirect him. Try tossing a treat away from where you are sitting/standing- maybe 5-7 ft away. It sounds like he got frustrated and started going after the treats. |

| It sounds like he is getting an entitlement attitude. I would try not giving him a treat every single time he does something and instead using praise (in a way that leave no doubt that you are happy with his actions).... You might need to do the praise along with the treat a few times so he gets the idea that praise = you happy. |

| Are you sure he knows the trick? Usually if my dogs ignore something I ask of them I immediately lure them through the whole process, praise, and then ask for it again without lure. That way they are "forced" to do it (by means of the lure) are praised (without food) but must complete the activity by themselves in order to get the treat. That is, of course, if i'm sure they know what i'm asking of them. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | I also did the tactic where I would not use a treat every single time. That way they never know if you are going to give them a treat or not- sooo they will always do what you ask! |

| Thanks for the responses, I will give it a try. He knows how to roll over and will do it with out a treat sometimes. It has gotten a little aggravating sometimes lol thank you all again, I will try whats been suggested and report back |
