| So you may have read that I also have a pair of wolf-dogs or wolf hybrids, which ever term you prefer to use. I have a female which we rescued little over two years ago. Her name is Hiawatha and she is half German Shepard, 45% Timber Wolf, than a mix of Husky and Malamute. She is now four years old and loving her new life. She is very, very shy and really only likes my husband, myself, and my youngest step-daughter. She tolerates my other step-children but only will go to the youngest. We had her six months before my husband could touch her..she would not go to him for a raw turkey leg, she was abused so bad by the guy who had her. I have male who is 75% Timber Wolf, with the rest mixed between Husky and Malamute. His name is Chief, he is 3 years old, and he is a total daddies boy. Hiawatha Chief These two have had two litters. Somehow we always end up with one white puppy and I am positive he is only one to tie up with her. All of the puppies have blue eyes and those change to brown around 5-6 wks. https://i.servimg.com/u/f83/13/93/38/42/pictur14.jpg Enjoy.

| They are just stunning. Carmen, could you comment on something for me? I have heard a lot of people talk about wolf-hybrids as being untrustworthy past the age of two. I've heard horror stories about them snapping at children or their "wolf" characteristics and independence taking over. Obviously you seem to have a lot of experience with wolves and have had children around them. What have your experiences been? Has this rung true to you or is it mostly an old-wives tale in your opinion? So many people have told me to leave the wolves in the wild, despite how gorgeous they are, I was wondering what someone who experiences them first hand has to say? _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| From my experience I can descibe how my two act...
I do not have kids...my step children range from 17-23. My sister does have youngin's with the oldest 2 at 9 and 7. These two have been around Chief and Hiawatha. Hiawatha will not let anyone but us near her. She is not agressive, but paces back and forth. She is very afraid and very shy with people she does not know.
Chief on the other hand is the one you have to watch for. He does not like strange men and is more likely to let a strange women go up to him. But I do not let anyone just walk up to him. When we talk walks, the kids in the neighborhood know to not run up to him... he does not like their bikes or skateboards. He trys to attack moving vehicles and hot air balloons. (crazy I know) When he was an inside dog and my sisters kids where over, they knew not to go to him, but wait till he came to them. Then put their hand out for him to sniff, then it was ok to pet him. He has not really had any regular contact with children in quite awhile, so I do not know how he would act. He is very protective of me and my husband. He does not live in the house because he and Thor no longer getting along. ( I will have to tell that story sometime later and in a different area I think..it is very sad)
One think I know we did wrong when we got him, was not socialize him as much as we should have. That really has backfired on us. He is a good boy, but only with people he knows and I definitly would not let anyone just walk up to him for that reason. I have taken this lesson when we have wolf-dog pups and applied it there. I fortunately have a job where I can take my dogs to work and I get as many people and kids over to play with the pups when they are starting to run around.
I hope this answer your questions and I will explain more about Thor and Chief later on in a different section... I don't know which one, but I don't think it goes here though... |

| When you say that they are 45% wolf, how many generations back was the actual wolf? I know that wolf mixes are a very touchy subject in most of the dog community and I have yet to pick of stance of my own. I know that breeding the wild out of them is very hard and you can truly never know what to expect. I'm sure that you are knowledgeable with the dangers of breeding hybrids and we all here are very accepting and open regarding it, but (as you probably know) not all breeders follow a code of sorts. They just make it a point to breed the dogs because people are always intrigued with animals that have "wolf" in their breed.
A lot of people mix the wolves with huskies or malamutes thinking that they are similar but huskies are one of the oldest breeds in the world, they go back thousands of years and have been domesticated that entire time. Sure, wolves and huskies have a distinct northern look, but that's pretty much where the similarities end. _________________ Posts made by me are not associated or approved by itsahuskything.com. | I got Chief from an Wolf Preserve. His mother is 90% Timber Wolf...this is as told to me by the owners of the preserve and I have seen her. His father is half Husky and half Timber Wolf, saw him as well and I can saw Chief looks just like his mom. Hiawathas mother came from the same preserve and I do not know the circumstances of how she got tied up with a German Shepard but this is what happened. I am very picky about who gets my wolf-pups..more so that my Husky pups. I once had a guy who wanted to get one to breed with a pit and I would not sell him one. I even turned down a guy because the puppy was terrified of him. I do not let them go to a home who is look for a wolf, but a good family pet. I give them as much information as I know and advise them to research and think about what kind of pet they are getting. I also recommend that they have them fixed.
This is website of the preserve: www.seacrestwolfpreserve.org She does not update alot but it is a good site with lots of info. They are located in Chipley, Florida |

| Wow! Hiawatha and Chief are both gorgeous. I absolutely love their names, did you name them yourself? I always wanted a wolf hybrid growing up but when I did some research on them I decided against it, too much risk for my taste so I opted for a husky instead. Chief looks amazing and their pups are just as lovely. _________________ |

| Hiawatha was already named when we got her and I felt that changing what had been her name for 2 years would be difficutlt for her so I left it the same. I am a huge Florida State fan, so Chief is named after Chief Osecola. |

| They always have a white pup.... don't know where it comes from. I have someone who is interested in her. Maybe next litter??
She is actually really dirty in these photos, but it is too cold to bath her right now. I am ready for summer already. |
