Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. | So the other evening Kya was outside, last I had seen, she was laying down sleeping on the snow/ice where she loves to be. I was in the house watching TV and all of a sudden i heard a very loud, angry sounding bark coming from what sounded very close. I have a lot of neighbors with dogs that bark a good amount so i figured it was one of theirs, but I went to check it out since it sounded so close. I go outside and there is Kya barking like I have never heard at the neighbor, whom she normally loves. The neighbor apologized to me for making the dog bark and I told her it wasn't her fault and I am not sure what had gotten in to the dog. What she told me was very interesting though, she had locked herself out of the house, and was walking around trying to figure out if there were any windows unlocked that she could try to sneak in through, it was cold so she was all bundled up with a hat, scarf and gloves, so you couldn't really see her. All I can thing of is that Kya knew something wasn't normal about this and that somebody that doesn't belong is trying to get it to the house and wanted to alert people. Once I got outside and was talking to the neighbor, she realized it was ok, and calmed down and started wagging her tail and "woo"ing. Has anybody else had this type of experience? I thought that it was kinda cool that she knew something was odd about what was happening. |

Our GSD used to do this, with anyone wearing a hat. Although it didn't matter if she knew who they were or not, she couldn't recognize them, by voice or scent, and just went nuts. She was a highly insecure dog. Snoopy and Nunya don't bark at anybody ever lol

She had never really barked before either, other than a single yelp once and a while to let me know she wanted to come back in the house. Because of that, I didn't even think it was her when it was happening, until I went outside to see what was going on.

Lucian has done this to strangers approaching our yard. He doesn't bark at anyone walking on the side walk, but if they come up the driveway, and he doesn't know them he will bark. It was so weird the first time he did. From what I've read huskies aren't territorial. But it seems Lucian is.

Bode doesn't bark at strangers when he's in the yard. The only time he barks is if he's in the house and he can see out the front door that someone is coming to the door.
