This is my first husky and his behavior is so different from other dogs that I have had. We have had him 2 weeks and he seems more and more that he could care less about interacting with us. Unless he is in the mood he hates to be held. He will shake his head a growl and try to bite until we put him down.

He will not come when you call his name or even look at you. But if you say the words outside or treat he is right at your feet.

Just wondering if this is a typical husky behavior or something we really need to work on in training.

Lucian doesn't care much for being picked up either. He just kind of turns into a limp noodle, lol. They do know how to ignore commands really well. If they don't see something in it for them, they won't listen. That is typical husky behavior.

Blaze has never like being pickup. We did not get him as a puppy he was 9 months old.

Kerian will let us pick her up with not problem. We got her at 2 year old a rescue.

They are all different.

Blaze will sit on his pillow in the living room when you call him and just look at you he only will come when he can go outside, a walk or sometimes when it is feeding time He is very selective on what treats he likes also.

Sounds like a typical husky, it's part of the reason I like them so much. They like their space and I like mine, but neither us of mind when the other wants attention. They seem to have a lot of cat in them. It's funny when you call them and they simply look at you like you're insane until they remember they're a dog and finally come.

Kavik is a huge drama queen when I try to hold him. He screams and howls like he's being abused when all he wants is to be let down so he can explore. He did this at petsmart when I held him to keep him out of trouble while I made his tag at the kiosk. He decided to be a little turd and made everyone in the store turn to see why he was bawling his head off. It was funny and embarrassing at the same time.

Glad to hear this is normal behavior. It will just be different after having my lab for 13 years that will respond to every command. The good thing is Nekko adores my lab and pretty much does everything that he does. So If I want Nekko to come to me I just call Codys name and they both come running.

Some of them ( like a little red I know) never stop telling you things. Its a constant woo woo roo at my house lately.

Welcome to the husky life. As time draws on, you'll find out what motivates him. Daily obedience training helps tremendously with, well, obedience. But he's always gonna be stubborn from time to time.

Just give it time, training and persistence and it will get a little better. Bella has her moods where she has to be right next to me even crawling into my lap sometime despite the days of her being a lap dog are far behind her. She thankfully doesn't have issue with me picking her up but I've only done that when it was necessary for her safety and she knows when I pick her up something is wrong so she's a good girl and doesn't wiggle or whine at all.
She also has selective hearing with the best of them but that too is improving. Make sure she knows her name and knows your voice calling which will get her to look at you when you call her and in general. It's been my belief that the more a dog looks at you when something happens the better trained that dog is. Train her for a little bit each day just call his name and if he looks he gets a treat. Bella stops whatever she is doing and comes to me most of the time if I just call her name now so it's worth it if you hear sudden silence or paper being shredded.

Welcome to having a husky!! Lots of huskies are drama queens. Sometimes, Ava will want to cuddle, but if she doesn't initiate the cuddling, its like trying to hold onto a 50 pound fish. This is extra fun during restraint at the vet or something.
