Vomitting in the Morning Empty
PostSubject: Vomitting in the Morning   Vomitting in the Morning EmptyFri Jan 25, 2013 2:16 pm

We have a vet appointment tomorrow morning, but I'm hoping someone else can offer some insight...

Our 3 month old Husky has taken to vomiting in his crate every single morning for the past 4 days. My partner and I assumed it might be because he's eating his last meal around 5:30-6, and he's getting an upset tummy because his stomach is empty till morning. So, I fed him a very, very small meal last night before bed. This didn't help, it seemed to exacerbate issues as he woke up at 5:30 begging to be let out to potty. He doesn't normally ask, so I took him out. We came right back in, and I put him right back in the crate - where he continued to cry (gently) and produce bile for the next 30 minutes. It was the worst vomiting session he's had to date. Normally, he starts vomiting bile around 7:00 in the morning. Both my partner and I work from home and we're used to getting up at 7:30 or so, and then feeding all the animals in the house. Otherwise, I'd worry it was separation anxiety. (BTW, his crate is in our room, and he has a very positive association with it.) Typically, he tears through his food even after the vomiting session. This morning, he scarcely even looked at the food bowl. (Of course, I'd feel that way too after this sort of experience.) The thing is, he's not vomiting at other times of the day. He's not typically lethargic (though he is this morning). And he's generally in good spirits. He does like to eat fluff from toys (which we regularly take away), but he's been eating it since the day we brought him home and he hasn't been like this. Sad Of course, I'm worried and don't like to see him hurting. Any insight would be wonderful.

Vomitting in the Morning Empty
PostSubject: Re: Vomitting in the Morning   Vomitting in the Morning EmptyFri Jan 25, 2013 2:22 pm

I had this same problem with Yukon. He would wake up around 5am every morning vomiting. I also read that it might be because his stomach is empty, so I started feeding him 4x per day instead of 3. I would feed him at 6am, noon, 5pm, and again around 7-8pm. That seemed to help him.

Also, I looked for other things that might have been causing it and took them away.

Do you give him any rawhide? That stuff is hard to digest, and even though Nikko could eat that stuff with no problems, I think that was the main thing causing Yukon to throw up.

You mentioned he eats the stuffing out of the toys. Yukon does this too. Nikko will tear the toy apart and just take the stuffing out and not eat it, but Yukon will eat every last bit. Same thing with the rope with string on it. Do you see any foreign objects in his vomit, or is it just bile? Just the other day Nikko threw up a squeaker from one of his toys!

If he is just throwing up bile, and you ruled out everything else I would take him to the vet to make sure there is nothing blocking his intestines or anything.

Lucian did this a few times when I first brought him home. It was just bile. He'd get an upset stomach from going over night without eating. He usually goes no more than 12 hours without eating. I feed him 3 times a day. Usually no later than 9pm. It's probably from going over night without eating, but it won't hurt to take him to the vet and have him checked out. Lucian outgrew the problem, and hasn't gotten sick in a long time.

Kale is notorious for vomiting bile if he goes too long without food in his belly. I have to feed him three times a day and he gets lots of treats lol (he's almost 3 years) These crazy Huskies with their sensitive tummies... lol Rolling Eyes Good idea to check with the vet though, just in case it's something else.

Bella does this if I let her eat too much of a marrow bone. Did you recently feed one or start giving anything your little one isn't used to?

Thank you all for the suggestions and feedback! He hasn't had anything outside his Blue Buffalo kibble. (We use it for treats too.) His mood seems to have improved throughout the day, which is nice to see. I'm trying to feed him at more regular intervals, as has been suggested, and see if that helps. Thanks everyone!
