My new little puppers has been dubbed "Ahsoka". Trying to tweak her registered name to match. I picked out DreaMagyk's Alabaster Empress before I picked her up, with no idea what her call name would be.

Any imput on names?

DreaMagyk was the name of my mom's kennel, so I would like that to proceed the name.

I like the sound of "DreaMagyk's Alabaster Togruta Tano", but I don't know if that is too bold of a reference to her name's origin and will make me look silly and be looked down upon.
(Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Her race is Togruta, world she comes from is Shili. She is a Jedi Padawan under Anakin Skywalker. Her skin is orange, and she is my favorite character, and the personalities seemed to fit.)

Puppers was born pure white, but is now a golden-orangey color with white undercoat and a white mask.

You can make the name anything you want - Hell if you wanted her to be "DreaMagyk's Cheeseburger" you could. No one will look down on you (or the dog) for it's registered name. Hell, most people don't even know a dogs registered name. (For reference Bella's registered name is "Twilight's Shining Star" [It was picked out before I knew of the Twilight movies and has zero to do in reference to them - before anyone asks.])

Also - the registered name and the call name don't really have to relate in any way. Call name could be ickkybooboo with that registered name - the dog really wouldn't care. lol

People use actors names, singers names, favorite characters from movies, song titles and lyrics etc for their dogs registered names all of the time. It's simply an identifying tool to distinguish dogs and dogs within specific breeds (Otherwise it would be really hard trying to find an "alex" or "fido" among 1000 different ones ).

True. I just wince every time I see a horrible registered name. Her mom's registered name is "Princess Frosty". Yuck.

I am hoping to make it into a show ring at least once with her (unless she develops a disqualification), and I know a LOT of handlers are prissy and judgemental. No offense to anyone on here of course! There's just a lot of politics that go on in and out of the ring, and I will already be at a major disadvantage. I don't want to give anyone extra ammo. My mom was a handler, and she flat stated that if someone walked into the ring with a name like "Princess Frosty", they would be laughed right back out of the ring.

They announce the show name when a dog is shown, and read the whole thing, regardless of how long or short it is.

Also, I like the names to relate at least a little bit... I have a good amount of OCD in my brain...lol!

I've never heard of them (or heard them say it myself) announcing the registered names. Only because the judge is not supposed to know where the dog is from or who owns/bred the dog.

When your class is up the dogs all enter the ring at once in a single file line (around the ring then and then) to be stacked. They don't announce each dog and then it enters. It would take too much time for that.

Well Shiver me Timbers. Someone fed me a line of bullhooey then. Or stuff has changed. My mom hasn't shown in at least 10 years. And I'm not really sure where I would have gotten any other show info from...

If anyone wants to offer up ideas anyway, I'm open to suggestions! I posted a bunch of pictures of her (as well as her pedigrees and parents) in her scrapbook.

I don't have any ideas I've been sitting on my next dogs registered name going on 10 months now and have only told two people (my breeder as I had to confirm with her that it was okay and also to make sure there wasn't another registered under her kennel and a friend who helped me think of a call name - I didn't want anyone to take it!)

If you want the registered name to be a reflection of the call name (or vice versa) I think the name fits really well. Though when you register her you'll probably have to pay extra for a longer name ( I -think- it's anything over 30 characters including spaces you have to pay extra money - I'm not -totally- certain but I do know over a certain number of characters you will have to pay).

I'm not worried about a couple extra bucks. I mean, unless they want $500 for a few extra characters.

Oh maaaaan.... I just noticed.... Your dog's name is Bella, AND Twilight's Shining Star?!?!?! And it's NOT related to the books/movies?? I am soooo sorry. Hope the Twi-hards don't mob you...
Unfortunately, I love the term Twilight and the name Bella, and they have been ruined for me since those movies.
I just get this vision of me naming my dog Bella, walking my dog and calling her name and some pre-teen running up and screetching "TEEM EDWURD OR TEEM JACOBB??!!!1" ........-___-

Yeah, it's uh...pretty bad. I've been asked quite a few times if she was named for the movies/books and it annoys me all of the time.

The story behind her name: She was named "Bessy" (xD!!!!!!!) by the "breeder". When we got her (she wasn't the one my mother and boyfriend originally wanted - that one was named Bella ironically) she really only responded to Bella and I was okay because it's Italian for "beautiful" (obviously fit because everyone assumes their dog is beautiful! lol). So when I went to register her "Twilight's Shining Star" came to mind because something like that is Beautiful and her black fur with the white flecks reminded me of stars in a night sky.

Then my boyfriend comes outta no where after I send it in and is like "YOU KNOW EVERYONE IS GOING TO THINK YOU NAMED HER AFTER TWILIGHT RIGHT? LOLOLOL" And I was just like "..."

But thank you - I love the name Ahsoka (like the character as well)

I can't believe I didn't think of the name. My boyfriend did. Out of the blue he said, "What about Ahsoka?" I went and hid in the corner out of shame.
It's perfect. Parts of her is this godawful bright orange color (just like Ahsoka!). I'm not sure if it's staining from walking in pee/licking/littermates or if it is really her fur color. Her back feet and all the way up the backs of her legs is ORANGE! And her tail is pretty orangey too. She definitely has red markings of some kind though, as I can see a very light mask on her. Pretty sure that's not pee stain. I hope.

You need to make a "cone of shame" .

I imagine it's some kind of phasing/buffing similar to what gray puppies go through and she'll lighten back up to the white/cream she should be. I can tell you she won't turn into a red lol.

But she's so...Golden orangey...I'm expecting anything from pure white to dilute red or anything in between. Whatever she looks like, I love her.

She is very pretty I think...if you look through Megan's scrapbook of Cato she has a puppy picture of him that shows off his "red" phasing where his head especially is a similar color to Ahsoka's right now.

If you want - try and get a good picture of her stacked (or take her to your mom) - around this age they are considered to be similar to how they will look as adults (think mini adult thems). You mom as a breeder/handler should be able to give you a decent evaluation (structure and how things together is the same on all dogs regardless of breed) of her conformation and really tell you what her faults are and should probably be able to tell you if she'll be able to do anything in the breed ring.

If you get a picture of her stacked you can post it and some of the more wisened people in conformation could probably critique her or you can show pictures of her to Siberian breeders you trust (or others have reference you to) to give an evaluation. But there is no better evaluation than a hands on one.

Also - if you want to show her you'll want to start practicing with her to stack - normally the breeder would have already started this from a very young age but since she didn't come from the best breeder...well, you'll have to start that now

Yes ma'am! She's supposed to just be 8 weeks today (I think my counter is off somehow...).
I'm holding off any judgmental anythings until her urinary issues are resolved. Over half the time her tummy and ribs are bulging with all the water she's drank. As soon as that's cleared up, I will definitely take a picture of her stacked. Assuming I can get her to hold still long enough...

I in truth don't know much about whites - but I suppose somewhere it's possible for her to be a cream (or I guess what would be "orange" in Siberians? I'd have to ask my breeder).

I remember you telling me you just want to get out and try it the only reason I suggest doing the eval is simply because you'll end up with a lot of crap (both in and out of the ring) - especially if you don't have a "show" quality dog (which you already know).

The only fault in Siberians is going over height - so you won't know that until the dog is done growing. Also - Whites don't generally do well in the ring (there are some but they never have in all the history of the breed in conformation). So you have another odd stacked against you =/

I believe those random white-ish-but-not-really-reds fall under "Isabella White" (oh garsh, there's that twilight reference again... ). Someone correct me if I'm wrong. There's not a lot of info on whites that I've found, but I keep looking. There is a lot of controversy on the interwebs of what makes an Isabella White. I'm still not sure, after a month of research.
Mom is white/cream-ish and dad is a classic Black and White. Looking at the pedigrees from her parents and seeing the pups they made, I would guess their basic genes are Br/rr. 6 pups came out white with smidges of "orange" and the other came out full RED. Then I was reading about an oxidizing gene that basically "bleaches" the color, creating differing shades from what the color "should" be. So theoretically (if I understood the article correctly) all 6 whites could be Reds in disguise, with that bleaching gene.
I don't understand all the technical terms in your quote, but I get the rough idea. I am just learning about color genetics. Almost failed biology in HS...was never interested enough. Oh wells! No time like the present, right?

Oh yes. I have no illusions as to what I am up against in the ring. Maybe some gaping holes in knowledge, but I always do my research first.

I'm studying genetics on my own with the help of my breeder/mentor. I never asked about whites but I will when next I speak to her. If you read what huskycolors says "white" in Siberian's isn't a color but it's produced by the action of certain genes.

Since Siberian's coat change so much I'm not inclined to call her an isabella right now simply because she was lacking these colors in previous pictures (or the quality of the pictures/lighting when the pictures were taken wasn't that good?)

I'm not sure what they mean by "oxidized". It's not a term I recognize or have heard before now.

There's more to that. but red is red and as it's recessive it won't be masked since it would be the one masking others which is why I'm not lead to believe she'll turn into a copper of any kind.

Iiiinteresting. I read a lot off the huskycolors site, but I'm sure I need to re-read everything again. Sometimes it takes a couple reads for my brain to understand scientific lingoism.
She has always had a faint tinge of color. The breeders said so when I inquired about her, even though the pictures didn't show much. Their photos weren't great quality. In fact, they didn't even realize she had two different colored eyes until I said something about it on facebook...
Like I said, whatever color she is/will be is beautiful in my eyes. I'm just so curious and almost weirded out by the orange. If you look closely, in her super itty bitty baby pictures her tail is colored.

I've yet to pick out a name for Anakin either, I also see Niraya has lured you into a genetics convo :p. it's been interesting so far, she looks very similar to one of Anakins older siblings from a prior litter, except her ears were red and the rest of her was like Ahsoka.

I can basically con anyone into a genetics conversation ..but it usually ends up being pretty one sided lol.

I have actually put my coat genetics research on the back burner recently and started working more on the inheritance of genetic diseases in dogs and studying structure - as they are vastly more important than figuring out what colors are going to show up.

When I have time I still dabble and I still very much talk to my breeder about colors as often as I can (better to talk with someone and they can explain on the spot than trying to read and figure it out on your own)
