Just picked my boy up from the vet and they had to give him a mild anxiolytic, Acepromazine, because he was very anxious. They gave us some to give to him to keep him calm and not get the zoomies and not pop his stitches. Poor baby has been sleeping most of the day. Questions are he has some horrible gas (so bad it clears the room) and he has pooped, it is from the anxiolytic or the Rimadyl (pain med)? Also they shaved his leg for the anesthesia, Is this normal and how long before it grows back? From the pictures below you can see how they shaved him.

They have to shave the leg to see the vein for the induction dose, should grow back within a month. Sometimes anesthesia and the pre-meds can upset the stomach, which would cause loose stools and gas. Rimadyl is an NSAID or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It's to reduce the swelling from the surgery.

Thanks. His stools so far are decent not too loose but not solid. It is just the gas is tear inducing and I was wondering if that was normal. Guess I'm just going have to put up with a stinky butt for a few days

Nah! Lol should only last for about 24 hours or so. If it persists, it's probably due from the meds you were sent home with. The rimadyl is optional, so that would be the first one that I would discontinue.

They shaved Lucian's leg too. Not that big of a spot though, lol. His surgery was only 10 days ago. I don't know about the gas, seems Lucian always has smelly farts. I wish they would have sent me home with a sedative, I had trouble keeping him calm for five minutes. They doped Lucian up pretty good before the surgery too. He was rather anxious, and scared. Shaking and everything. Poor baby. But they did his surgery first because of it.
