| I was doing Korra's daily no-place-is-sacred training, and found some mucus-like stuff on her vulva... Gooey. We have boosters on Thursday, but I called and got a check-up for 3:30. So, I guess the girl has a mild case of puppy vaginitis, we got meds and lots of treats from the vet and set home. They said it should clear up within two days, thankfully. She's also had 4 accidents in two days, when before that she'd had two in almost three weeks Darn. They said her privates are developing normally, so hopefully it's just an isolated case. We'll check again on Thursday. Anyways, apparently it's not that uncommon, so maybe this topic will help someone in the future.. She's gotten her antibiotic and is drinking tons of water, so if all goes well we'll be all better soon! And hopefully back to not peeing the carpet. |

| Is a mild case typically needing antibiotics? I read online (coz everything you read is true doncha know!) that a mild case can be cleared up by daily cleansing of the vulva with a baby wipe or equivalent. I just picked up my baby girl (8 weeks on Monday), and noticed some greenish discharge from her lady bits last night. Did some research, and until I get her to the vet next week for her checkup, I am going to keep cleansing it gently.
Anyone with other experiences with vaginitis in dogs? Should I be rushing her into the vet, or can I keep my planned schedule and get her in this coming week? I don't really have the $ to do seperate appointments if its not a high risk issue (which it doesn't seem to be. No smell, doesn't seem to bother her much if at all). I have a spay contract, so she will get spayed when she is big enough, if that makes any difference. |

| Huh, that's a good question. They said she had a decent amount of bacteria in the mucus, but that the amount in her pee was low, probably due to the bucketloads of water she's been drinking, so they'd put her on the antibiotic to be safe? They checked it out and are gunna have the lab double-check. I'm not sure what 'mild' really even means, not very specific. I have to pay for two visits in a week- I completely understand your $ concerns Maybe they just wanted to sell me meds...? Anyways, they said good on me for catching it early because it could spread up and cause a UTI. It could also get fought off naturally. I figured better safe than sorry because I'm sure having a UTI wouldn't be so fun, my lab mix had a few in her life and they did not seem comfortable. Also, she's adorable. We will have to have puppy play dates! |

| Ok, I read that if the bacterial count is high enough they issue antibiotics. I don't seer anything fishy about that. Just hoping my gal won't need them. Especially since she got it at the breeder's house. Grrr...
What part of Washington are you in? (sorry if I asked previously somewhere else, I don't remember) I would love to have puppy play dates! |

| Hopefully she won't! For a little puppy, I'd play it safe and get her checked, but it's really your decision. Could you move your appointment forward? Also, if they do check her when you bring her in next week and decide it does need treated, you might not get your boosters and have to bring her in an extra time anyway. Since it's been 3 weeks since Korra got her shots, I asked if we could just do it this visit, but they said cause her body is already fighting the infection they won't give her vaccines. I'm down in Redmond, not more than a 1/2 hour drive |

| She seems to be peeing awfully frequently too... Sometimes she'll pee 5 or 10 minutes after I watched her pee outside... I hope it hasn't been going on long enough for her to get a UTI. That breeder is gunna get an earful from me if she needs medicine. I paid an arm and a leg for my pup - there is no reason they couldn't take $50 out of the money they made off the pup to have her checked.

| I don't know enough to know if that's just puppy-peeing or UTI. Honestly, since she's from a backyard breeder I'd have taken her in as soon as I got her home. Who knows how healthy she is, you may very well be paying an arm and a leg for the vet too. Has she been squatting and only letting out a dribble? When they've got a UTI they get urges to pee even if they're empty. When did she get her last boosters? If it's past the 3 week mark, it wouldn't hurt to move up her appointment? And if it's nothing then you can still get her shots. Hopefully someone more experienced will chime in |

| I got her yesterday, and I had 0 extra time to even call. Without breaking state laws anyway. I honestly forgot to call today. I have my little girl dog out in the shop that I have to keep checking on, have been potty training the puppy, getting her food from the store since the food the breeder sent home with me is crap. Trying to train my 4 year old to poop in the potty and deal with his constipation issues, feed everyone, feed myself, chastise Dexter for eating the food I was about to eat because I had to run after the puppy for some reason or another or my kid... The bf is working overtime this weekend, so I don't really have much help. She was supposed to be vet checked before she came to me. I forgot to ask for proof of it, as I was going to be late to pick up my son from daycare. Sending him a text now. And she pews every time. Varying amounts, but usually a good sized puddle. She does drink a lot of water though. |

| You have a lot on your hands! I do not envy you. If she's drinking abnormal amounts of water and peeing a lot I would get her in when you can. |

| From what you are describing it sounds like she has a UTI. My lhasa would drink I swear gallons of water and pee very large amounts, and she had a UTI. If she were my puppy I'd be getting her in as soon as possible. Vet expenses are apart of owning a pet, it sucks, but that's just how it is.
Insurance won't cover routine visits and whatnot, but have you looked into insurance? |

| Crap. My vet's not open on Sundays. Soonest is just walking in on Monday and hoping they can squeeze me in... The breeder said if something is wrong, they'll take care of the vet bill. That's a plus.
I'm still skeptical of pet insurance...there's enough our regular humanoid Insurance doesn't cover...I've always wondered if it was worth the monthly cost. |

| Ok, I too am voting UTI. Tried to go to sleep with her, but she was breathing pretty quick and kept sitting up panting, like she needed water. So I got up and took her to the water dish and she drank and drank and drank, and squatted and peed pretty much while she was drinking. Poor girl. I'm going to get some Apple Cider Vinegar in the morning as well as some plain yogurt and start dosing her until I can make it to the vet on Monday. She seems bloated too (I thought she was just fat, but she was only being fed 1 1/2 cups a day of low grade dog food). From all the water she's been drinking, I don't doubt she's mainly bloated from water. And good lord she has bad gas. O_o |

| If it were me, I'd see if there's an emergency clinic associated with your vet, or find one and get her in before Monday, just cause she's a tiny baby. And definitely update with how the poor girl is doing |

| I will see what my options are in the decent hours of the morning...
I will say though, her belly looks MUCH better this morn. Started her on Blue Wilderness yesterday and have been giving her all the water she can possibly drink. I read the extra protein is huge in combating UTI, and all the extra water helps to flush out the bacteria. I'm wondering if she didn't have enough water supply at the breeders, or had a hard time getting to it because of siblings. A splash of ACV added to the water can't hurt, and I have some cranberries that help combat infection as well. I'll see if she likes those as a small treat. I grew up in an "all natural" household, so I tend to lean towards a more homeopathic approach. Now with that said, I still go to the doctor and take my pets to the vet.
She's spunky, and peeing doesn't seem to hurt her. No bloody or cloudy or crystalized urine. In fact, the urine has almost no smell to it thanks to the amount of water she is ingesting. I will keep updating. For now, back to sleep!
