Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Hmmm.... not sure whether to feel angry at this video or sad... it really seems like these people didn't do their research before they ended up with a dog.

I feel bad for the dog... smh

Seems a lot like Kay when we first got her. At least the kid was willing to learn and do anything for his dog Smile

I don't feel angry or sad. The kid was willing to change for his dog and he did. He reminds me so much of my own experience that it's scary. Sometimes a poor decision can become a good thing.

I picked out Jewel when I was in second grade when no one in my family knew what we were getting into. She was crazy, running laps along the perimeter of the fence, yanking me over like the dog in the video, and got out of the yard several times. I chased her every time; even across busy streets (I was insane). But I would do anything for her, never got angry at her, and never gave up on her crazy husky ways. I loved her so much after that after her passing I didn't even think twice about what breed my next dog would be. So....I can't be angry at the kid in the video Laughing

Oh bless the kid though,
Genuinely upset by the fact he cant walk or play with him, unlike some kids who just get bored. Sad

Oh, man, that kid is too cute. I'm sure the pup's life has changed dramatically for the better. Good for him!

I give the family props for reaching out. Most owners in that situation post the pup on craigslist with rediculous rehoming fee Rolling Eyes . Much love to the family for wanting to keep and work with the, especially the boy.

The boy and his dog is a fitting name for the segment. That was truly enjoyable to watch A little obvious no research was done.... =\ 1347041234

I had done quite a bit of research on working dogs in high school, but hadn't in years when I got Kale. As long as someone (or the family) are willing to learn and change, I don't see why there's a need to be upset. It's all about perspective and a willingness to learn to be a better dog owner. Sometimes dogs fall into your lap and you have to learn on the fly, and there's nothing wrong with that either.

I really enjoyed watching that segment. The boy is a natural dog person in spite of his (obvious) not-so-dog-people parents. I hope they have an extra strong filter for the pool. They're going to need it when he is blowing coat. Wink

Oh - might not have been clear enough in my OP... The fact that the family got the kid a dog without doing any research was the sad part. I'm with all you guys on giving props to the kid, though.

Sorry - long day - thought I had posted it originally, but seems like I just had a brain fart. Embarassed

Is there an age when you should start looking for one? Stark's only 10 months, but I want to take him hiking during the spring/summer/fall (all seems like one straight season now...), but I read they usually bulk out around 18 months, so should I wait? Or are there good quality ones that are cheap enough for me to get a set for when he's older?
