I am almost glad I didn't know he was gone, or else I would have freaked out. We normally will leave Bode out in the yard by himself for 10-15 minutes and have never had a problem before. Well today he was outside and I was home. All of a sudden there was a knock at the door and my next door neighbor (the owner of Bode's love, the French Bulldog) had Bode on the porch! She said he had just been jogging down the street. She said she just whistled and he came to her. I think she was in her car, which helped, because he can't resist a car ride. I still can't believe she caught him, because he normally doesn't care a lot for strangers. I feel horrible and now my mind is racing with "what ifs..." if she hadn't caught him.

I don't know how he got out, must have climbed the fence, though I've never even seen him try before. I couldn't find any spots that he may have got out at. Needless to say, no more unsupervised yard time!

It makes my heart race just thinking about it. So glad your neighbor got him. Time to check the fence!

We replaced 3 sides of our fence this last summer because it was very bad and the gates didn't work anymore. The pups had gotten our once when I didn't get the only partly working gate closed.

I would also check to see if he dug his way out. My neighbors dogs dug their way into my back yard one afternoon. I was about to let my pups out looked out side and her dogs were in my yard. One of the dog crawled back under the fence the other got out when I opened the gate which I probably shouldn't have.

I walked the perimeter of the yard and couldn't find any suspects spots except one. There's a spot along the side of the property where the fence runs alongside the garage about 2.5ft away from it. There is no real fencing to close that off at all. Our landlord has used stronger mesh fencing there to close the gap. There's a small hole at the corner that Bode may have been able to squeeze through if he tried, but the leaves around it didn't look like they had been disturbed, so I don't think that was it. We are going to fix it regardless. I think he must have just climbed/jumped the fence.

I think what happened was our neighbor had taken her dog from her house to the car and drove off, and Bode wanted to follow. This is the dog he loves. And that had to be how she had seen him, because he tried to follow them. I don't think he just jumped out for the heck of it. She said he probably just wanted to follow Rosie (the dog).

I wish we had a privacy fence, but we rent so we have no control over it. I've thought about asking our landlord about the possibility of installing one, but we are only going to be here another year or so, and I'm not sure if she wants to put the money into a fence that works for most people.

Jade has gotten out through holes that i never thought possible, and holes that she has had to contort herself quite a bit to squeeze though. She has also jumped the fence too, 6; privacy fence, no problem as long as she has a good running start and something to launch herself from.

My suggestion is if it looks possible it probably is where she is getting out and to put something there to plug up the hole. I have a bucket of gravel that i use as a temporary fix until i can make something more permanent.
