Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

I could start an official FB page like we used to have. However, I don't want it to become a place to replace the forum and I also don't want to give myself another place to monitor and administrate.

I have debated starting a FB page, but again-- my time is limited.

I was on a forum that created a FB page and it did end up taking away from the main site. It also kind of created two separate groups. It would be nice as a social thing though.

That's true I didn't really think of it taking away from this site. How more people are into Facebook I can see that happening. It'd be tough to decide to make it or not.
Thinking about it I wouldn't because I like this site better.

I know I was the one who suggested restarting a Facebook page this morning. However, after thinking more about it, I can see how it would take away from this site. I know I haven't been here long, but I really do like it here and would hate to see it fall by the wayside because of Facebook.

That group got re-named, so it's no longer associated with IAHT.

Well I think if you started a page and not a Facebook group, there would still be a lot of discussion here. Facebook is just a good way for people to connect in a more personal manner. I personally prefer to have discussions on a forum versus Facebook.

But it is ultimately up to you guys. I think a Facebook page could also be a good resource to have, but I also wouldn't want it to overpower what we have here on the forum.

I'm on a number of other non dog related forums and the facebook pages or groups enhance the main forum. I was actually disappointed to find out that there wasn't a "It's a Husky Thing" FB page. For many people, we may not have the chance to repeatedly log onto a forum during the day but we may have FB open and see the posts come through.

For example, members will post up saying they just posted pictures and direct you to the main site. Or they ask someone to weigh in on a discussion if they've had personal experience with something but they may not have seen the post.

The posts go by so fast here that unless it's on the right nav under latest topics you may not see the post. Another great thing would be to post up when the monthly poll for the Husky of the Month is - I always seem to JUST miss it! Smile

I know it may feel that you need to moderate it, however in my experience there is a forum and FB ecosystem that self-regulates itself. People either report posts or give someone the needed smackdown themselves. Wink This community is so closely bonded through their huskies that most people have the forum's best interests in mind and are happy to protect the education, entertaining and fun nature of this community.

People use multiple ways to engage with their community and FB is a great way to extend that community and pull people in more frequently.

I find that incredibly ironic considering the activity that has been going on Facebook recently. After the past week, I am WAY less inclined to put this forum's name on anything when it comes to Facebook.

@hollywoodhuskies That's actually what my experiences have been with the Facebook counterparts to forums. The main discussion is left on the forum but people can post on the Facebook page a short description of the post they just made on the forum and post a link to the discussion here.

I also agree it would be a good place to post announcements for voting and polls especially for the new themes for Husky of the Month. Since unless you are OCD like me and check all the sub-forums when they have new posts, you tend to miss a lot of good discussion or things that are time sensitive.

Unfortunately, when people feel overmoderated, underappreciated and thus unwelcome they find ways to vent in other ways. An open environment where all members are engaged in keeping the spirit of the forum going is most successful, IMHO.

There's lots of Siberian Husky Facebook pages. A few of the members here are a part of some, including myself. There just isn't one associated with this forum. I kinda like the separation. Idk that's just me lol
