Hey guys, new guy/dog to the fourum. See what I did there? LOL anyways, decided to join to learn some new things about my sorta-new husky/shepherd(?) mix, Koda! Yea yea, typical husky name She is about 50 lbs., just turned 1 year old on Dec 11 and she has been a handful, albeit with improvements along the way. I got her in May from an ex-gf of mine who was fostering her. There was a little bit of a learning curve with this one. I didn't read up on husky breeds before I got her and she had been passed around a few different homes before then. Our last dog was a German Shepherd and we had to put him down in Aug. '11 because of medical complications. It sucked. But now we have Koda. She is an only dog. She is a sweetheart, not a mean bone in her body. She LOVES playing with other dogs, big or small. She likes people too (especially when you rub her belly) but you can tell when she's playing with other dogs she's really in her element. She is very smart too! When we got her she already knew how to sit and shake. We've been working on stay and leave-it lately and we've started some clicker training as well. She gets plenty of exercise. Right now we're in Florida on vacation and there's a bark park right down the road so shes been going there almost every day for an hour or two along with walks during the day. She's usually the fastest doggie there! She still needs some work though. She can't be left alone for too long without destroying something or going potty in the house. If there's even one person there shes ok but she gets destructive when left alone. We've started to crate train her but she doesn't seem to like the cage at all and she is a little skittish of loud noises (like when the cage rattles) but she generally has an outgoing personality with a passion for exploration and adventure lol. We've been throwing her toys in the cage to get her comfortable with going in and out of it and it helps a little. Just gotta keep it up I guess. We went out to dinner tonight and we put her in the crate with all of her toys and a pillow for a couple hours and the pillow was shredded when we got back. I've been looking at some "chew-proof" beds to get her but I doubt how long they will last with ole scissor teeth over here. We've been through sooo many collars and we just ended up leaving the choke chain on her even though we really don't like them. We use a nylon collar or harness for walks that gets taken off when we get back home and we really just use the choker to hold her tags and info in case she manages to get out. Anyways, here's some pics of her! Here she is right after we got her in May A couple weeks ago on our way down to Florida Sleepy girl Dogs LOVE coconuts lol First Christmas! OK I need to stop posting pictures of my dog. It becomes a habit. She's just so darned photogenic! Anyways, nice to meet everyone!

Lola didn't take to the metal crate and ended up destroying it and her bed. Our trainer had use switch to the plastic sided kind and we have it anchored to the wall so it does not move around. We worked up her crate time over two weeks or so. There are tons of info on crate training here on the forum. Use the search function.

Hi and welcome! She sure is beautiful! Just stay consistent with the crate training and hopefully she will learn to love it . I don't even bother with beds in the crate anymore lol. And in this forum there is no such thing as too many pictures!
