| So our 2nd vet visit for Sierra last Wed. was to go see an eye specialist and finally have a name for her condition in her eyes. the Vet was super nice and used all kinds of fancy equipment like a human eye doc would use and in the end he said Sierra had corneal dystrophy. here is some info on it. http://www.upei.ca/~cidd/Diseases/ocular%20disorders/corneal%20dystrophy.htm this is something that developed when she was young like between .5-5yrs old. she SHOULD NOT have been breed with her being almost 10 and the fact that i have not noticed a change in her eyes since we got her (almost 4yrs ago) there is a good chance it will not get worse, the vet has only seen one case in his 20+ yrs of a husky going blind and the dog was 14. so im hoping she will be fine for many more years. the visit was a pretty penny but peace of mind was worth it and now i can tell people when they ask. its hard to get a good pic of it but im sure some of you have seen it in pictures i have posted. and those of you who have met us have seen it. i just wanted to put this out there for others to see and be aware of it. _________________ |

| My Nanook has it too. It doesn't seem to affect his vision, and the doc said he rarely sees it progress into blindness. (He was already neutered when we got him, so hopefully he was never bred.) |

| Megan, im not sure who her first breeder was the breeders that picked her up and breed her two more times before we got her was snow cap kennels in CO. they are not around any more because of a zoning issue or something with the kennels. i wonder if it says it on her AKC papers... i can check tonight. _________________ |

| Hope it never causes her any issues. Topaz thinks it makes her sexy. Mikko has stromal dystrophy. Put him on a lower fat food and special drops cleared most of it up. Now I just watch his cataracts on both him and Topaz. They both have had them since birth, another example of bad breeding. |

Not sure if that will bring anything up, never searched it. Her sire is listed in Paw Village http://pawvillage.com/pedigree/pedigree.asp?ID=YM5IRG4D44 He's got some CH further back in his pedigree, but I don't see a CERF # or OFA # on him. I can't find anything on her dam. According to this source http://www.vmdb.org/dx2.html CD in huskies is a recessive trait, so both parents were at least carriers (and perhaps even affected themselves). Also, according to that source, it tends to show up in huskies by the time the dog is 27 months. |

| Honestly, it looks like some BYB or puppy miller got ahold of Echo Calls lines.
I would call AKC and get the owner information, and be sure you get them the results. If they are a miller, they probably won't care, but at least you will let them know she has CD.
Now, did this just occur? Or has she had it a while? Because CD can also be caused by diet, or at least intensified.

| Megan, looking at the AKC paper for sierra it seemed the sires has the AKC titles and the dams did not. We got her with her eyes like that, she was just turning 6. she was last breed at 4. the first owners were the ones abusing her and the 2nd "kennel" took her from them in 2007 and got her papered with AKC and breed her 2 times, like i said that "kennel" is not open any more. i do not think her eyes have gotten much worse in the almost 4yrs we have had her. i took her in to be check just so i had an answer when people asked what was up with her eyes and i wanted to know. thank you for posting the sire link, the doc we saw gave me a ton of info on CD _________________ |

| Jen, when you adopted Sierra, were her eyes the exact same?
A good friend of mine has a female with CD, and has had it since she was young, she switched to a raw diet a few months ago and it is receding. Not sure if they are connect, but I thought it was something to mention. |

| they have been the same, maybe a hair worse but not that much. im sorry but i will never do a raw diet, i dont feel knowledgeable enough to do it and no freezer room for meat. would maybe do a freeze dry feeding or the prepared raw but we dont really have the $ for that. they get raw meat on the side if we have it though, its not that im opposed to raw food. thank you for the thought though! _________________
