| Royce had gotten neutered on Thursday and thankfully, the procedure went well. The vet had told us that he is to not run, jump, etc., before he brought out Royce, but the minute Royce came out, he immediately jumped and paced back and forth, since he was very excited to see us. The minute we brought him home, he continued to act very excited. Everyone in the house made sure to act really calm, so he wouldn't sense any excitement or anything like that, but it really didn't seem to make a difference. Anyways, we just watched him and his every move the past few days, because the vet had told us that on Monday, he'll be 100%, but, as all of you know, Huskies can never contain their energy. These last two days, I've checked on his groin area, and it looks a bit red and maybe inflamed, but it's very hard to tell. He isn't licking it or isn't going at it, as though it's in pain, but I'm a bit concerned. Is this normal that it looks a bit red? Should I wait it out, or should I take him to a vet? Is there a certain point where I should be concerned? |

| I would say as long as it's not bleeding, or oozing anything, and he's not bothering it. than I wouldn't worry. It's going to be a little red, and swollen for at least a few days. The main thing to keep an eye out for is infection. Any kind of oozing out of the incision area would warrant at least a call to the vet. A little bit of bleeding can be normal as well, as long as it stops, and it's not a lot. |

| I agree with Christina. Just keep a close eye for bleeding, or oozing of any sort. Lycus swelled quite a bit, and it took a bit for it to go away completely. |

| Can you post a pic?
I wouldn't worry too much. It will be inflamed for a bit, because it's healing. The vet I went to for Delilah said to dose the dog with 25 mg of Benadryl if you need to keep them on bed rest...I never did, but that is what I was told was an option. Bendaryl is a pretty clean drug, and it wouldn't hurt anything, but Delilah was a lazy bum. I'm not saying you should do it, but Benadryl is used quite often in the veterinary community as a light sedative. |

| I checked it this morning and it's definitely not as red as it was the past few days, but there was a small bit of, what looks like puss, surrounding the sewn up area. It's not a lot, but when I tried to lightly touch it, it felt a bit sticky. Every so often, he'll lick it, so I'm pretty concerned at this point. On some other websites that I've checked it, it says that puss or a discharge is usually normal, but if it has an odor or if the dog constantly licks at it, then it's probably infected.
Admittedly, we didn't do as great of a job as we did to make sure it wouldn't get to this point. We got the surgery done in Michigan and drove back to Chicago 2 days later, which the vet had said would be fine, but when we got home, a few of our friends stayed with us for the holidays, so he was still very excited.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how to post a picture on here, otherwise, I would, since I'm pretty nervous about this, as well as growing a little worried to take him to the vet, as we're a little strapped for cash at this point. |

| upload it to photobucket then post the link
Which vet did you get it done at? A high volume clinic?
You need to put a cone on him. He probably has irritation because he is licking it. Go to Petsmart and get him a cone if you don't have one, that should help. |

| Since it says you're from Michigan, you'll hopefully understand the place I'm talking about! We took him to the Okemos veterinary clinic, which is a place my aunt usually takes her dog too. It was the only clinic that was available to take him in for neutering at such a short notice, and since I had never taken Royce there, I was a wee bit worried, but they were really good and trustworthy. The funny thing is, we actually tried putting a cone on him the first day, but he was extremely persistant in getting it off and at one point, when we left the room for about 5 minutes, he was able to break it off.
Thankfully, in the past hour or so, he hasn't licked it or anything like that. He's been napping for awhile now, but whenever me or my wife stand up to walk around, he walks with us, tail wagging and everything. |
