Ok, so Gracie is now 11 weeks old. My wife got back in town from her research data collection on friday. She brought Oliver home with her, as expected, because this is his home. Anyways, for the past 3 days, he's become known as Officer Butthole, because anytime Gracie even comes close, he starts to snarl at her. I know hes only around 7 years old (he's a rescue, like, literally off the side of the street), but hes acting like a grumpy old man. I know she is a bit hyper for his taste, and constantly wants to play with him. When we leave the house we crate her, which isn't an issue. However, when we are home with both dogs in the house, we'd like to have a bit of peace and quiet without having to worry about the quarrels. Any and all advice is appreciated, for either dog. Thanks in advance.

No advice here Cloud and Yuki have bonded since day 1 and I got really lucky but hopefully someone can come along and offer some advice to make the transition easier for the old dog and the new pup.

Maybe he's just trying to re-claim his 'territory' with her by setting her in her place. Obviously you don't want that to happen. I'm not sure how you'd go about correcting it, and wish you luck on that part!! PS: Officer Butthole made me laugh, haha!

I would tire the husky pup out! A tired husky is a happy husky and a VERY content owner. Either play with her or get her running around. It will help them bond together if you walk them together. Dogs are pack animals, they need to do things together! As for the "Old man" growling at her- it's normal. It's up to YOU to let him know that is as far as it goes. Adults often growl at pups to put them in their place- he's just doing his job. This is a perfect time for you to practice the husky pups recall. When she's bugging him call her name and have a REALLY REALLY good treat for her, tell her how good she is and make a huge deal out of her coming to you- have a toy and play with her. Not only does this give the older dog a break, it strengthens her recall- so, if you were to call her when she's playing with a dog at the dog park she will think "My name! Oh they've got good things for me!" ... having said that, she could turn and give you the finger.. I mean after all, she is a husky! LOL

Is this the first time they are interacting? Even if not... this sounds totally normal to me. Koda is very energetic and Hailey just wants to cuddle. When we first brought Hailey home, she wouldn't let Koda NEAR HER without growling, baring her teeth, etc. There were quite a few scuffles. But with time and a controlled environment (no toys/treats and supervised meal times), a few a day turned into one a day, which turned into a couple a week, once a week, once a month, etc... and now they will rarely ever fight except for the occasional brother/sister spat as I like to call it.

Just give them time Smile It sounds to me like you are expecting a bit too much too soon.
